    Default How do I enable SPF in FOSS Edition?

    Hi everyone,

    I am using Release 6.0.6_GA_2324.RHEL5_20100406144520 RHEL5 FOSS edition.

    I'm trying to get SPF working. It looks like it should be enabled by default, but I don't see any of the SPF messages in the zimbra.log, nor do I see them in the email header's X-Spam-Status section. The following was taken from a gmail message since I know gmail uses SPF...

    X-Spam-Status: No, score=-3.498 tagged_above=-10 required=4
    tests=[BAYES_00=-2.599, HTML_MESSAGE=0.001, RCVD_IN_DNSWL_LOW=-1,
    RDNS_NONE=0.1] autolearn=ham

    Seems like if it was working there should be an SPF_* item in the spam status line.

    (perl -e 'require Mail::SPF') returns nothing, so the module is installed. The spamassassin files show lots of SPF entries.

    From what I can tell, it should be working, but I don't believe it is.

    If anyone has any ideas on what to look for, or a more definitive way to test it, please let me know.

    Thank you,

    It works for me sending an email from a gmail account to my server gives this:
    X-Spam-Status: Yes, score=7.829 tagged_above=-10 required=5
    	tests=[BAYES_00=-1.9, DKIM_SIGNED=0.1, DKIM_VALID=-0.1,
    	RCVD_IN_DNSWL_LOW=-0.7, SPF_PASS=-0.001,
    .... and an email sent from my server to a gmail account:

    Received-SPF: pass ( followed by the correct domain and permitted sender IP
    Did you follow the instructions in the wiki article? You're going to have to give some details of the exact changes you've made to your ZCS server and what your SPF records are and if you've tested them.

    I've upgraded to 7.2.0_P1 and made no changes to the config files as they relate to spam processing. As far as I know, everything is still at the default.

    Now at least I see the following in my zimbra.log:
    Aug 31 00:43:30 zimbra amavis[24202]: Module Mail::SPF 2.008

    But nothing else. Still no SPF items in the X-Spam-Status line.

    I have not edited any files. The wiki that I found seems to refer to older versions of Zimbra. I thought SPF was enabled by default in 7.x and the rules already existed in /opt/zimbra/conf/spamassassin/

    Even leaving the default low values as defined in, I would expect an SPF value to be reflected in X-Spam-Status. Even if a mail comes from a domain not using SPF, I would expect that spamassassin would still test for it.

    I'm guessing I've missed a pretty basic step, but I can't figure out what it was.

    My header for an inbound mail looks like this:
    X-Virus-Scanned: amavisd-new at
    X-Spam-Flag: NO
    X-Spam-Score: -0.231
    X-Spam-Status: No, score=-0.231 tagged_above=-10 required=4
    tests=[BAYES_00=-1.9, FORGED_HOTMAIL_RCVD2=0.874, FREEMAIL_FROM=0.001,
    HTML_MESSAGE=0.001, RCVD_IN_DNSWL_NONE=-0.0001, RDNS_NONE=0.793]

    You can test it using one of many email authentication testers on the web..

    Here's two of them that I use.

    Unlock The Inbox Email Authentication Test Tool
    Port 25 Email Authentication Test Tool

    Their's a few others - You just have to do some searches, you'll find them.
