Default backup (network edition) and crontab permissions

    hi

    Code:
    zmcontrol -v
    Release 8.0.1_GA_5438.SLES11_64_20121105164455 SLES11_64 NETWORK edition.

I wanted to schedule backup but this fails due to permission errors:

    Code:
    zimbra@vvx-mail-01:/> zmschedulebackup -D
Can't exec "crontab": Permission denied at /opt/zimbra/bin/zmschedulebackup line 329.
readline() on closed filehandle CRON at /opt/zimbra/bin/zmschedulebackup line 330.
    Rebuilding backup cron

readline() on closed filehandle CRON at /opt/zimbra/bin/zmschedulebackup line 330.

I tried to fix permission but did not find a solution.

    Code:
    zimbra@vvx-mail-01:/> zmschedulebackup -q
You (zimbra) are not allowed to use this program (crontab)
    See crontab(1) for more information

I am no expert here, however dont you need to run this command as the zimbra user?

or at least sudo (sudo zmschedulebackup -D)
    Many Thanks

you are right - this has to be run as zimbra - and exactly this is my problem.
the zimbra-user is not allowed to execute the crontab command (which is called in the script....)

if you run the command as root you get
    Code:
Must be user zimbra to run this command

found the solution - there was too much hardening on the server :-)

    Hocky-Notes - Zimbra :: Wiki

    Code:
    /etc/cron.allow
    Code:
        /usr/bin/crontab
user who want to run this command has to be in the group "trusted"

        vi /etc/group

        ...
        trusted:x:42:zimbra
