    Default [SOLVED] All outbound e-mails deferred after upgrade to 8.0.3

    Hey all,

    I am running Ubuntu 12.04, ZCS FOSS and recently upgraded from 8.0.2 to 8.0.3. The server is dedicated to Zimbra.

    Any e-mail sent, whether from the web client or IMAP client gets deferred with the below error messasges.
    Receiving e-mail is fine.
    If I log into Zimbra Administration, I can just requeue the e-mails and they will send successfully.

    I have read a number of other posts with this error, but there's either no response or it has been regarding an external domain.

    In my upgrade from 8.0.1 to 8.0.2 I recall there was an issue with amavis and IPv6 causing the same symptoms, but I can't seem to find that post/resolution.
    However, I moved amavisd to IPv4 only and I am still getting this error message for all e-mails originating from my Zimbra users.
    I use IPv6 quite a lot and have been running Zimbra on IPv6 since ZCS6 days.

    Code:
    Apr  6 11:48:00 mail postfix/smtp[2937]: 5AD4D1C2FE9: to=<user@linktohome.net>, relay=::1[::1]:10026, delay=4751, delays=4751/0/0.01/0.12, dsn=4.5.0, status=deferred (host ::1[::1] said: 451 4.5.0 id=30664-02 - Temporary MTA failure on relaying, From MTA() during fwd-connect (Negative greeting: 554 5.7.1 <localhost[::1]>: Client host rejected: Access denied): id=30664-02 (in reply to end of DATA command))

    Have you resolved this problem and if so, what was the resolution? You could also try the following: disable the AV system; disable IPv6 on your server and in ZCS; check if there's another mail server running on port 25. Do any of those resolve it? Which version of ZCS was running before the upgrade?
    Regards

    What IP mode did you set zimbra to use?

    Hi,

    Short answers; no it's not resolved. At the moment I've just done a cron job to flush the queue every 5 minutes. Lame, but it's doing the job.
    I'm actively using IPv6 and have been for years, so it's non trivial to just disable it.
    There is no other mail server running on port 25. It's a dedicated Zimbra install. The issue seems to be with 10025 anyway, as mentioned above and tested.
    I was running 8.0.2 before the upgrade.
    Disabling AV just pushes the problem onto the content filter on 10030. Snippet of the logs included below;

    May 23 20:46:38 mail postfix/smtpd[3200]: connect from mail.linktohome.net[10.2.1.2]

    I've seen something like this on systems where "localhost" was not set to ::1 in /etc/hosts. Specifically there seems to be a stupidity on ubuntu systems to do something like:

    Code:
    ::1 ipv6-localhost
    which breaks most IPv6 support for ::1.

    Just thought I'd update this thread as I believe I have now resolved it.

    I was testing an upgrade to 8.0.4 and started getting a few different log messages in relation to postfix; fatal: open dictionary: expecting "type:name" form instead of "::1/128"
    My logs were also showing messages like
    relay=::1[::1]:10024, delay=619, delays=619/0.08/0.11/0.07, dsn=4.3.2, status=deferred (host ::1[::1] said: 421 4.3.2 Service shutting down, closing channel (in reply to RCPT TO command))

    and
    status=deferred (delivery temporarily suspended: lost connection with ::1[::1] while sending DATA command)

    Postfix was listening on port 25 but I wasn't getting a banner or anything (same with 10024 and 10025), so I looked into the mtaMyNetworks syntax. I am puzzled as to why this has not been an issue all along as I have now added the sqare brackets around my IPv6 addresses and it seems to have resolved the issue.

    Strange, but hey, it's all good now.
