Default Upgrade failed so I tried to go back

I am basically in BIG trouble here... I was running the 7.1.1 Community Edition on Centos 5.9 and wanted to upgrade to current version. The upgrade seem to be running fine and the failed because of the Perl issue with Perl 5.8... Anyways, that behind me!! Because the install had partially made, it of course meant I could not just go back.
I backup the /opt/zimbra directory using rsync and rsnapshot DAILY so I thought I could just go to my backup from the night before. OK, but my directory was close to 150GB.
I've now been up for close to 40 hours trying to get this done and am dead tired! After restoring my /opt/zimbra directory, my ldap service won't start! I tried a reinstall too and that complained about my LDAP passwords (all of them) so I know that it is an OpenLDAP issue with not restarting.
I am NOT familiar with the ins and outs of OpenLDAP.
Here is the tail-end of my install log...
    Mon Jan 6 20:02:52 2014 Checking ldap on vmail2.vpnetworks.ca:389
Mon Jan 6 20:02:52 2014 Unable to bind to ldap://vmail2.vpnetworks.ca:389 with user uid=zmamavis,cn=appaccts,cn=zimbra:
    Mon Jan 6 20:02:52 2014 Couldn't bind to vmail2.vpnetworks.ca as uid=zmamavis,cn=appaccts,cn=zimbra
    Mon Jan 6 20:02:52 2014 checking isEnabled zimbra-mta
    Mon Jan 6 20:02:52 2014 zimbra-mta is enabled
    Mon Jan 6 20:02:52 2014 checking isEnabled zimbra-archiving
    Mon Jan 6 20:02:52 2014 zimbra-archiving is not enabled
Mon Jan 6 20:02:52 2014 checking isComponentAvailable archiving
Mon Jan 6 20:02:52 2014 Getting available components
Mon Jan 6 20:02:56 2014 Component archiving is not available.

I am sure that someone who knows the ins and outs of Zimbra and OpenLDAP can solve this but that unfortunately is not me... I can let an expert login to my machine and I will compensate for your time. I have nothing to loose at this point. I'm letting a lot of people down. Mostly friends and "freebies" but nonetheless embarrasing.

I think at this point I would try this:

    1. uninstall Zimbra
    2. # mv /opt/zimbra /opt/zimbra.fubar
    3. Install Zimbra 7.1.1 with -s switch
    4. # mv /opt/zimbra /opt/zimbra.virgin
    5. restore your backup of /opt/zimbra
    6. Install Zimbra 7.1.1 normally and cross your fingers it works.
