I had a user today report that he was forwarding mail from acct1@mydomain.com to acct2@mydomain.com and acct3@mydomain.com (it's a complicated shared access email setup), but he was having a problems with mail being marked as read in, say, acct2@mydomain.com, and then having that same message automatically marked as read in acct1@mydomain.com and acct3@mydomain.com. After a bit of investigation, I was able to determine that Zimbra appears to set up a hard link when forwarding to local addresses, and marking any one of the resulting messages as read automatically marks all of the other messages as read.

Is there a way to turn off the hard-linking behavior when forwarding locally, or to at least prevent multiple instances of a forwarded message from being marked as read automatically? Is this intended behavior in Zimbra, or should it be reported as a bug?
