    Default Moving ZCS from Ubuntu-8.02{32-bit}(ZCS-7.1.1) to Ubuntu-12.04{64-bit}(ZCS-8.0.7)

    I'm migrating our current zcs GA7.1.1 from it's original Ubuntu 8.02 32-bit server to a newer machine.

    All the docs for migrating require that you have a matching version of zcs on both machines

    Accordingly, I have the new machine configured with Ubuntu 12.04 64-bit, and when I try to install zcs GA7.1.1 (64-bit), which is for Ubuntu 10, using the --platform-override flag, it fails:

    Installing packages

    zimbra-core_7.1.1_GA_3196.UBUNTU10_64_amd64.deb installation failed

    Installation cancelled
    Do I have to have a matching OS Version as well to start the migration?

    That would mean installing Ubuntu 8 64-bit on the machine, in order to install zcs GA7.1.1 64-bit, and then having to upgrade the OS version incrementally, while also upgrading the zcs version incrementally.

    Or is there another way that I haven't yet found Googling and searching the forums/Wiki?

    So far all I've found is an older reference regarding how dpkg had it's naming conventions changed and made stricter:

    I am aware that this zcs package is for Ubuntu 10, as the .deb. filename indicates, and I can see that the installer identifies the installed OS as "UNBUNTUUNKNOWN64" - but obviously there never was a GA7.1.1 package created for Ubuntu 12 since it didn't exist at the time.

    Any help greatly appreciated.

    Then I found this, but it's not definitive:

    Ajcody-Server-Plan-Move-Migration-Upgrade-DR - Zimbra :: Wiki

    Still searching...but, as usual, I finally find something applicable, after several nights of fruitless Google/Wiki/Forum searches...moments after posting my question.

    Looks like one needs to start with Ubuntu10, which had a matching 7.1.1 64-bit zcs release, migrate zcs to that server, and then upgrade that server's OS from Ubuntu10 to Ubuntu 12, and then upgrade zcs to 8.0.?

    Am I right?

    I hope not - I'd like to do it all in one step...

    The easiest thing to do is use ZeXtras - it's free, easy to use, and will move everything to the new server. See the ZeXtras site for details on system requirements.
