    Default Network service error when trying to send email

    I am getting the following error when trying to send an email message to a local user:

    ------------
    A network service error has occurred.

    dump - function() {
    return "AjxException: msg="+this.msg+" code="+this.code+" method="+this.method+" detail="+this.detail;
    }
    msg - system failure: MessagingException
    code - service.FAILURE
    method - ZmCsfeCommand.invoke
    detail - soap:Receiver
    --------------

    Any ideas as to what may be the problem?

    Thanks!

    Are you running on the localhost? This can mean either the network connection is down (if it's not local) or that there is a problem sending to the server. Can you check /opt/zimbra/log/zimbra.log? See if anthing is reported there.

    check /var/log/maillog, too - if postfix rejects the message (bad domain, etc) the client reports it this way.

    If that's the case, and the address should be good, check the MTA tab in the admin console for DNS based rejections (non_fqdn_recipient, etc) - turn them off, and try again.

    I did a zmcontrol status and noticed that the MTA status is "stopped"

    Trying to do a zmcontrol start, but I am getting asked to enter a password.

    I have a feeling there may be some issue with my machine.

    Thanks.

    Make sure you're the zimbra user when issuing these commands.

    To start the MTA, we use a sudo command to start postfix - make sure there's a line in /etc/sudoers that looks like this:

    %zimbra ALL=NOPASSWD:/opt/zimbra/postfix/sbin/postfix, /opt/zimbra/postfix/sbin/postalias, /opt/zimbra/postfix/sbin/qshape.pl

    If it's there, trace the command:

    su - zimbra
    bash -x bin/postfix start

    and see exactly where it fails.

    If it's a sudo problem, check /var/log/messages for auth errors.
