Default Zimbra really slow since yesterday...

    Hi!

Few days ago I noticed that I can't login into zimbra, it seemed that the ldap died. So I killed the daemon and thought the problem is gone. But yesterday some users said that the server has a really bad performance, I decided to shut down the (virtual) server but then the whole system crashed.

After a reboot I did a fsck where some lost inodes where found. I started the zimbra server and everything seemed ok. But then I saw that the tomcat java process uses a lot of cpu (between 20%-80%). I thought maybe the server is doing some work for initalization but over night a had a really bad load (with no user access):

    Code:
     load average: 3.38, 3.73, 3.91
Here is the current load of the java process:

    Code:
PID USER PR NI VIRT RES SHR S %CPU %MEM TIME+ COMMAND
     9197 zimbra 25 0 463m 109m 15m S 35.0 44.1 2:07.91 java
Has anybody an idea why I have such a bad performance?

    What does df -h reveal?
Also, have you tried a reboot?

Have a look in /opt/zimbra/log/mailbox.log for anything unusual.
What OS Are you running? What about IMAP users?

My host system is debian etch with precompiled vserver kernel 2.6.18-4, the zimbra server is debian sarge inside the host system. There is enough space free on my harddrive and I have absolutly no idea why the performance is so bad since yesterday. I ran the system a couple of weeks without any problems. I also tried some reboots of both host & guest system and a reinstallation of zimbra but it never worked.

It wasn't zimbras fault, I had a damaged harddrive... I replaced it and now I hope the problems will be gone!

also you've only got 1gb where recommended is 2gb. run vmstat to see if you're seeing any paging, search the forums for reducing mysql and java memory footprint, that helps a lot on underspecced boxes.
