I thought these are sockets. What about using tar - this just ignores the sockets.

    ...
    tar: private/lmtp: socket ignored
    tar: private/anvil: socket ignored
    tar: private/scache: socket ignored
    tar: private/maildrop: socket ignored
    tar: private/old-cyrus: socket ignored
    tar: private/cyrus: socket ignored
    tar: private/uucp: socket ignored
    tar: private/ifmail: socket ignored
    tar: private/bsmtp: socket ignored
    tar: private/smtp-amavis: socket ignored
    ...

    Cheers
    Andre
