    Default Local Mail Delivery Bouncing

I'm having an issue with mail local to the Zimbra machine (ie tripwire scripts, etc) not getting to their destination. for instance
adam@somedomain.com is handled by Zimbra, and my mailserver is named mail.

    Nov 21 14:30:23 mail postfix/smtp[4944]: EBB62CFC80: to=<adam@mail.somedomain.com>, relay=127.0.0.1[127.0.0.1], delay=1, status=sent (250 2.6.0 Ok, id=24449-09, from MTA([127.0.0.1]:10025): 250 Ok: queued as 203F7D002E)

    Nov 21 14:30:23 mail postfix/smtp[5377]: 203F7D002E: to=<adam@mail.somedomain.com>, relay=none, delay=0, status=bounced (mail for mail.somedomain.com loops back to myself)

Normally a local MTA would deliver mail to the appropriate users.. do I have to add "mail.somedomain.com" to the Zimbra "Domains" and create aliases to get delivery?

    Default

yes you could create a domain for that host in Zimbra.

You could also make use of local_recipient_maps, if you so prefer, to deliver mail to /var/spool/mail for address@machinename.example.com. Look into mydestination also in postconf documentation.

The former method of creating the addresses in Zimbra is probably better/simpler for most use cases.

    Default thanks

    thanks for the reply.

i agree that adding a domain to the zimbra console is probably the simplest thing to do here.

i've manually added mail.emplifyhr.com manually to the mydestination string, and am now getting a rejection during the SMTP session that the mailbox does not exist.

if i want to add it to the local_recipient_maps, is it as simple as adding:

    local_recipient_maps = ldap:/opt/zimbra/conf/ldap-vam.cf

    to the main.cf?

    Default saved from rewrite

also, will those conf items be overwritten during your rewrite?

    Default other machines

it might also be worth noting that local mail on other machines, which use mail.somedomain.com as their relay get properly delivered.

that is, mail sent to adam@other.somedomain.com to the local MTA on other.somedomain.com are then relayed to mail.somedomain.com and delivered to adam@somedomain.com.

i guess i don't understand what the difference is.

adobrin - no need to touch mydestination and local_recipient_maps if you are just creating domain in Zimbra for the hostname. Revert those to what they were. I was suggesting those as alternates if you did NOT want the local machine mail inside Zimbra.
