Default Remove Account names from GAL

Is it possible to not show account names in the internal GAL, and only show aliases?
In my deployment of zimbra I am using account names that will authenticate against an external LDAP server. However those account names are not what I want users to consider the canonical email address for a person. Each account gets setup with an alias. Eg:

    account name: johns@example.com
    first alias: john.smith@example.com

I don't want johns@example.com to show up in the GAL. Is this possible?

There should be a "Hide from GAL" option in the user's profile in the admin ui. Check it for all your users, and that should do it. . . .I think

I need the exact reverse (hide the aliases and keep the main account name)

    outside machine(address@company.com)
-perdition(checks user-and if using the 'new' zimbra solution applies address@something.company.com)
-inside machine has the address@company.com as the account name (so when they send mail the process doesn't have to happen in reverse) an alias is made for that user address@something.company.com and i can't hide THIS in the gal.

searching for the 'address' returns both emails

so really a checkbox is needed to hide the aliases in gal

There are several bug reports (some are fixed now) about the aliases being shown (in the webui or outlook).
Which version of Zimbra are you using ?

I'm running 4.5.4. The 'Hide from GAL' option hides all addresses associated with the account. Not just the aliases, or just the account name.

I don't want to show up the zimbraMailDeliveryAddress (loginname) in GAL, only the zimbraMailCanonicalAddress should be shown. To achieve this I changed the mapping from accounts to address book with zimbraGalLdapAttr (see GAL Attribute Mapping - Zimbra :: Wiki).

    Code:
    zmprov mcf -zimbraGalLdapAttrMap zimbraMailDeliveryAddress,zimbraMailAlias,mail=email,email2,email3,email4,email5,email6,email7,email8,email9,email10,email11,email12,email13,email14,email15,email16
    zmprov mcf +zimbraGalLdapAttrMap zimbraMailCanonicalAddress=email
Now, only the zimbraMailCanonicalAdress is shown in the GAL. I think, it's also possible to shown only the alias addresses with zimbraMailAlias=email,email2,email3,....
