Unhappy Admin console not connecting to remote server

    Hi,

I'm having a bit of an issue with the admin console.
The set up I have is as follows:
Zimbra 4.5.5 on suse10 set up as an edge server, runs MTA, logger, virus and spam filters
Zimbra 4.5.5 on suse10 running everything else (i.e. LDAP, mailbox, etc)
edge server connects to LDAP on main server.

When I access the admin console on the main server i get the following message:
    Message: Csfe service error
    Error code: service.PROXY_ERROR
    Method: ZmCsfeCommand.invoke
Details:error while proxying request to target server (url=https://my.server.com:7071/service/admin/soap/): Connection refused
server name changed to protect the innocent

Anyone got any ideas? I have trawled through the forums to no avail (probably using the wrong search criteria!) This is the only thing stopping me from going live with this now.

    Cheers

    Hello, welcome to the forum.

I thought logger was to be setup on a mailstore server...

Is it a brand new setup or upgraded one ?

    thanks for the quick reply.

    my mistake.
For some reason I was under the impression it went on all servers, just re-read the Installation-Planning for Multi-Server Install doc in the Wiki and found you are right and I am wrong .......

Now how do I get rid of logger from the 'edge' server?

As this was only an 'edge' server I decided the easiest option was to just reinstall without the logger service this time.

Just completed it logged into the admin console on the main server and still get the same problem.

The services running on the 'edge' server are:
    antispam
    antivirus
    mta
    snmp

Services on 'mail' server are :
    ldap
    logger
    mailbox
anitspam & antivirus (I want to remove these if I can get the edge server working correctly)
    snmp
    spell
    mta

Any help greatly appreciated I've been trying to solve this for a couple of weeks now

    Default Something new

Well everything is up and running .... well almost.

Mail is being delivered internal and external, disclaimer is being added to all mails rather than just those destined for the outside world (but I can live with that for now).

Logs were being collected for the local machine, remote server still just displaying no stats available (or words to that effect). So I decided to follow the instructions in the admin guide to get all logging up and running. What a mistake! Now I have no logging whatsoever.

I have trawled through the forums, tried everything I have found ... still no logging info & no pretty graphs being displayed.

The only thing I ahve noticed, that doesn't seem right, is that where the guide states 'Edit the /etc/sysconfig/syslog file, add -r to the SYSLOGD_OPTIONS setting' I only have SYSLOGD_PARAMS within that file. does this mean I should add the SYSLOGD_OPTIONS line??

anybody managed to get this working on SuSE 10.

Well since I'm not using Suse10 I can't comment on the exact config of syslog, but I can say this the first time I did a multi-server install they were some key things that I missed.

Make sure you read through the "Zimbra NE Multi-Server Install.pdf" It says NE version but its the same as the OSS version.

Namely making sure the ssh keys are copied to each server, that both servers know about each, and the syslog is running. Check the /var/log/syslog file on the main box and see if it grabbing the status of the other server.

    Code:
    May 18 13:46:04 mail zimbramon[3303]: 3303:info: 2007-05-18 13:46:01, STATUS: mail.xxx.com: antispam: Running
    May 18 13:46:04 mail zimbramon[3303]: 3303:info: 2007-05-18 13:46:01, STATUS: mail.xxx.com: antivirus: Running

You want to keep anti-virus on the mailbox, though you can turn anti-spam off.

If you're not seeing that, google the correct options for syslog for suse, then restart the syslog daemon on the edge box, and you should see any new entries appear on both systems. You can also check port 514 (syslog port) and see if any data is coming or going.

glitch23, thank you for pointing me in the right direction. it was the syslog(or rather syslog-ng) config that wasn't sending the info to the main box.

I am now getting the status for both servers being displayed.

A question you may be able to answer for me: should I get the graphs displayed for both servers? the edge server is just displaying 'data not yet available'. Do I just need to wait for the graphs to be calculated i.e wait till tomorrow before getting concerned?

    Cheers

You should wait 1-2 days for the graphs to show up, granted there has to be data there for it to show up. (i.e. you have to have mail hit that server)

Thanks for all your help. Just checked the server this morning and I am getting graphs for Message Count and Volume but, unfortunately, nothing for anit-spam/anti-virus.

Does that work in a different way?
Is there any way of getting that information through to the log host server?
