    Unhappy Zimbra 5.0.2_GA_1976 - OS X 1.5.2 - Entourage 2008 (version 12)

We recently updated from 4.5.6 to 5.0.2 and now I cannot sync Entourage with Zimbra. With 4.5.6 I was able to sync Entourage with Zimbra using the connector; however, for every day that passed a duplicate entry was created for each appointment on my Zimbra calendar. This was OK, because I used Entourage and my Blackberry synced via USB to Entourage to operate from on a day-to-day basis. It didn't matter how many times it showed up on my Zimbra calendar as long as it was there so other employees could see my availability.

Now with Zimbra 5.0.2 and Isync connector 5.0.1971 I can't sync Entourage at all with Zimbra. Entourage successfully syncs with Ical and I have at times been able to get an Entourage Calendar to show up as a secondary calendar in Zimbra, but after the initial sync it won't keep in sync. I have yet to get my main calendar to sync using the Zimbra Calendar and the using the "Entourage Integration" option.

I have read through the forums here and get the impression that Entourage is really not supported all that well and that is completely unacceptable for me. Yes I know Entourage is an evil Microsoft product, but Zimbra is marketed as supporting it in production (read not-beta) and I personally find Entourage to be a much more effective organizational tool than the native OS X tools and other open source tools like Thunderbird/Lightning. PLEASE HELP ME!

I'm sorry to hear that you're having problems. Can you attach the sync logs (found in ~/Library/Logs/Zimbra) so we can pinpoint what might be happening? That would be very helpful in diagnosing what the problem might be.

    Thanks,

    Scott

Hi Scott, Thanks for your concern.

I started with what appears to be an empty calendar on Zimbra and reset the sync history from iSync. I then selected the Entourage Calendar under Calendars in the Zimbra Connector Preferences and I selected Entourage Integration. Then I told it to reset sync data for my calendars one way from my mac to zimbra. One note worthy point is the first time I opened the Zimbra connector for this exercise, my Entourage calendar was not listed. I closed system preferences and reopened it and this time my Entourage calendar was available for selection.

I don't really want to post all of the log here because they contain sensitive information; however, posted below is the last 100 lines of the logs showing some errors. I can always cat the logs to a grep for an error or exception if need be. If you would like the whole logs, I can arrange to send them to you off-line.

Thanks for the logs. What you are seeing is a problem that results from the dups in your Entourage/iCal calendars. This bug has been identified and fixed (bugzilla #25151) and will be in the 5.0.3 release.

    Thanks,

    Scott

    Hi Scott,

I'm not certain I understand what you mean by dups in my Entourage/iCal calendars. Can you please explain? Are you talking about reoccurring appointments or appointments with the same name?

Also, why would this work some of the times and not others? Like I said before, sometimes I can sync everything over, albeit not to my main Zimbra calendar, and sometimes it only does a the first few of the ~750 appointments. Of course, it doesn't sync after that, but that behavior is really inconsistent.

    Thanks,

    Joe

A dup in this case means any appointment in iCal that has the same title and the same start time. Other attributes of the appt might be different, but they are considered the same if the title and start time of the appts are the same.

Why you are getting inconsistent behavior is strange. I'm assuming though that you are seeing the exceptions in the logs everytime? Or is that not correct?

    Thanks,

    Scott

So I just went through and deduped my ical/entourage calendar and I am still experiencing issues. I would like to post my whole log file but it appears that all the contents of my meetings are in the log and a lot of that information is company or personally confidential. If it helps, this is what I am seeing at the end of the log now.
