the solution for me is to check the use SSL boxes and then Accept the Untrusted SSL message that comes up. Not the ideal solution and needs a fix to be able to use non-SSL but its working.

you did this on Imap or pop.

I was able to use IMAP without any problem but there were lot of issues the way it was syncronizing the mail boxes. Also in IMAP it keeps the mails on the server which is pain for us.

Once thing I understood is that zimbra is not ready for pop3 accounts, this is after i spent alont 2 working days.

Yeah I got the same thing ,trying to resolve it now , but one suggestion I saw on my hosting site was to change the port numbers , especially the outgoing one. They suggest 587 , but Im sure it is not the same for everyone.
I will try to get back here with an update.

There are also a couple of things that annoy me with Zimbra and would like to get it of my chest. I will do it next visit. Im sure the good folk at Zimbra will take it in the positive feedback kind of way that it was intended to be
    Peace out

    Question SMTconnect Failure

I just tried to setup my POP mail acount with my ISP. I got the SMTP connect failure. I used the same exact settings that my MS Outlook software on my desktop PC uses. I am using zimbra desktop 1.0.3 build 1691 on Windows Vista. Core 2 Duo T9550 CPU, 4GB RAM. My ISP uses POP3.

Here is the log file output:
