Default Refuses to synchronise either Yahoo calendar or Yahoo address book

All e-mail synchronises correctly with my Yahoo address but both the calendar and the address book flatly refuse to do so . Occasionally get error message : "Failure communicating with remote server. Please try again later." Always get error message as quoted below. Example here is when booted into Ubuntu Linux but same happens (or doesn't happen) when booted into Windows Vista.

    Product version: 1.0
    Build ID: 1537
    Release type: R
    OS Platform: Linux i386 2.6.27-11-generic
    Time of event: 2009-04-09 14:36:22
    Error type: service.FAILURE
    Item ID: 7
Error summary: Yahoo address book synchronization failed

Sadly not able to copy and paste from error with calendar but first line looks like:
"Expected [BEGIN], read [] at line 1"
