I have multiple email accounts in my Zimbra Desktop. On the main account, I am getting an error of "failure communicating with remote server". This has been going on since June 2012. When I try to send an email, it sits in the outbox until I either click on send/receive again or until Zimbra automatically checks for new mail. This is the information that appears:

Failure communicating with remote server. Please try again later.

I don't know if this has anything to do with the issue, but if I log into Zimbra through a browser as opposed to the Desktop, my Inbox shows 56 unread emails in the count on the left side, but when I click on Inbox, there are no emails there. I really would like to resolve this, but I'm afraid to do anything such as reset or reindex because I don't want to lose my saved emails. Any help would be appreciated.
