Mailto Link Handling
Hi, I recently made the switch from Thunderbird to Yahoo Zimbra Desktop Beta 3.
I read on the blog that Zimbra Desktop would be able to handle mailto links in Windows but when I tried to enable this by going to Preferences and then setting Zimbra as the default mail client, nothing changes. Mailto links still open in Thunderbird. I am running Zimbra on Vista Home Premium and I do not have a Zimbra email account. I use Zimbra Desktop to keep track of my other email accounts. Is there a way I could manually configure this?
sometimes restarting the gui client helps. could you try that?
Restarting doesn't work
I've tried restarting the GUI and also I've tried reboots it's not registering. Also does the Mailto link handler apply only to IE or Firefox?
so you probably have another client that's overriding the setting in registry. please make sure you turn that off.
it should work with both IE and firefox.
That would be Thunderbird. Would I have to uninstall it or is there a registry key I can safely remove?
I already unchecked the "Always check to see if Thunderbird is the default client" checkbox. I checked the "default client" box in Zimbra Desktop, no avail. Is there a registry key I could manually set?
So right now if you run zdesktop gui and never run thunderbird, when you click on mailto does thunderbird still come up? In theory if you don't run thunderbird any more zdesktop should have overwritten the thunderbird settings in registry.
I uninstalled Thunderbird and tried this again, it still won't override the registry key. I ran Zimbra Desktop as administrator. I am the computer administrator so I don't know why it's not writing to the registry the proper settings. Does it matter if it's Firefox 2 or Firefox 3?
I've narrowed the registry key to HKCR\mailto. Anybody know what I should modify there?
