    Smile Zimbra Desktop Build 1278

    Zimbra Desktop Beta 3 - 0.90 build 1278

    Minor updates for fixes to:
    -POP/IMAP issues.
-Install path can now contain spaces.
-On manual updates we can now check for stray prism process to end that are Zimbra Desktop related.
-UI (remember it uses a lot of the same webclient code as ZCS)
-Various Mac Tiger quirks like start/stop issues.
-Syc frequency scaleback/throttleback when not running UI.
-Import/Export first pass (should be considered alpha).
-Prism spellcheck will now suggest options (it previously just underlined) in main window, detached window suggestions is another bug. Aspell (for all browsers) is another RFE.
-This bugzilla search by date from 1249/51 release covers Zimbra Desktop specific items. See Bugzilla/PMweb for 5.0.9 & 5.0.10 content on all items.

Note: Mac OS Tiger running build 1251 can't use auto-update. Those users must go here to acquire the new version and run installer to upgrade. This issue is fixed for future releases.

You can speed up your background download by clicking 'check for updates'.

I got the message to install this from the desktop client and allowed it to do so and now the desktop service will not start correctly, I am always getting an error saying:

Couldn't start Yahoo! Zimbra Desktop server, giving up.

Did I do something wrong as part of the install?

    Thanks

A few things you may try:
    - Manually restart "Yahoo! Zimbra Desktop Service" from control panel
    - Reboot
    - Download ZD 1278 from www.zimbra.com and run installer again

You should also check zdesktop.out and zdesktop.err. If server runs into critical issues during early stage of startup, the log may go there. Thanks!

    Default delete .class files

I had the same problem on Windows XP. To correct it I used the Command Prompt to go to <install directory>\zimbra\zdesktop\jetty\webapps\zimbra and do del /s *.class . Then it should come up.

This doesn't sound like a valid solution. You shouldn't do this.

Correction. I wrote \zimbra\zdesktop\jetty\webapps\zimbra and it was actually \zimbra\zdesktop\jetty\work\zimbra.

deleting the class files should be innocuous as jetty will just recompile the .java as needed. I do not know why the .class was corrupted but this did clear it.

either way this should be a clue for whoever is researching this.

This makes more sense since we do use jetty\work directory for jsp caching. I think we may have an issue here. Starting with 1278 we no longer delete the jetty folder explicitly during uninstall. As a result we may have left over compiled jsp under jetty\work. This may have caused what you saw. Please file a bug for this and we'll make sure we delete jetty\work directory.

However I would say there are many other possible reasons for the server to fail to startup. I'm not implying the server fails often I'm just saying when it does fail the cause can be a variety reasons so please don't follow this prescription blindly.
