Default java.net.SocketException when setting up email account

I'm running Windows XP SP3 and have just installed the latest version of Zimbra Desktop. When first run, setup of an email account is required. The attempt fails and I can't move beyond the POP/IMAP Account Setup. I get this error: "java.net.SocketException: Connection reset".

Default same problem on Ubuntu 8.04 - log included

I'm seeing the same problem on Ubuntu 8.04 (Hardy Heron).
Fresh install of the latest version of Zimbra Desktop went fine.
Went to set up an IMAP account and I got a red error message
string at the top of the IMAP account form:

    java.net.SocketException: Connection reset

    Game over.

I see an error in: ~/zimba/zdesktop/log/mailuser.log, which I include below.
Looks like it is having trouble connecting to my IMAP server. I'm using
the same settings as I use for Thunderbird, which work fine.If I telnet
to the IMAP server on port 143 (IP addr = 192.168.2.102, in this case),
    it greets me nicely.

In any case, the "can't connect to your IMAP server" behavior could
be a bit more user friendly.

same here, i cant create a POP mail account. however gmail is working.

what i also noticed is that zimbra was installed to c:\zimbra which wasnt the directory i have chosen on the setup progress.
im testing the program because i want a free, independent mail-program which has a good business-contact handle and a calendar. because im mobile with my laptop i have a truecrypt container (secret, invisible) in which i want all my mails, contacts and calendar events to be saved in to prevent others from stealing my datas...

this urgently needs to be fixed, especially the pop mal account problems - or mozilla should introduce a stronger, more flexible contact adressbook with tb version 3.

Welcome to the forums (all 3 of you actually!)

Metzgerr could we get some more logs snips? As you're using windows drive:\zimbra\zdesktop\log\

Vote for / CC watch these RFE's:
Bug 27936 - Allow Multiple Zimbra Desktop users on one machine
Bug 15608 - Install the application and data in their proper folders (win oriented)
Bug 28263 - Zimbra Desktop Installer privs and application location (mac oriented)

Bug 24258 - install path can't contain spaces which is planned to be fixed soon (you could force use of %20 for space at your own risk of course) but you've already seen that the installer prevents this.

Default Same error trying to set up GoDaddy email accounts

Successfully installed and set up 2 Yahoo email accounts, but no luck on any of my GoDaddy email accounts. After I enter settings and click Save Settings get same error:

    java.net.SocketException: Connection reset

Tried various ports and combinations, no luck. Reinstalled Zimbra, no luck. Just can't get past that step. Otherwise works for Yahoo accounts.

Running on XP Home SP2 and latest Zimbra Desktop 0.90 Build 1251

I'd LOVE to use this program but not until I can set up all my accounts.

    any help out there?
