    Question SMTP Connect Failure

I installed the Zimbra desktop. The only error I saw during the installation was something about not all Zimlets were installed.

Now I am trying to setup a POP mail account. When it comes time for the SMTP setting, and I do the validate and save, I get the error "service.FAILURE: system failure: SMTP connect failure". The settings are exactly the same as my current email client (Cox Communications is my internet provider). My regular email works fine. Why the problem here?

    Default Same problem

I am having the same problem. I have the server info and port correct but still not taking it. Says timed out. Both incoming and sending mail server are the same, just different port.

I just installed Zimbra, and encountered the same error message. It seems people ask about the problem, but there are no answers. Is there anyone out there?

Default There si something odd here

I, too, am having the same problem. I have installed beta3 of ZD2 alongside version 1. in version 1, I had a similar problem, but it eventually went away on its own after repeated clicking.

But it is back with version 2 and this time no amount of clicking seems to solve the issue. We use hosted exchange with 1and1. If I open a terminal and type in

    telnet smtp.exchange.1and1.com 25

    or

    telnet smtp.exchange.1and1.com 587

They both respond as ready. When i put the same url in ZD, it tells me the server is not available and to check connectivity and port settings. If i instead just use a regular IMAP setup rather than Exchange IMAP, it also fails. This is the exact same setup I am using on version 1 on the same box and there is no error there.

Please let me know how I can help to address this issue. TIA
    Terry

Some email accounts only use the email name and not the domain name. For example, if your full email address is bobo-the-clown@gmail.com, use only bobo-the-clown as the user name in the Zimbra account setup page. Give it a try...

Default SMTP Failure during initial setup - me too

I can add myself to the above list.
While trying to install Zimbra Desktop version 2.0.1 on my Windows 7 Home Premium (32bit) system it fails at the initial POP3 account setup screen with the following error message:
service.FAILURE: system failure: SMTP connect failure

I had exactly the same problem 2 years ago when I last tried Zimbra which was then version 1.00. I didn't pursue it further then but am now as I'd really like to try Zimbra. My smtp settings are correct (server, port no and authentication required) and work fine in a variety of other email clients eg Live Mail, Thunderbird, Postbox, Opera Mail, eMClient etc etc. All with my current setup as I've been looking for a new email client recently. Plus I've just reconfirmed the server isn't offline by sending a test email successfully.

I am really surprised this software still has such a basic problem after all this time and wonder how many other potential users fail at this first step and give up on Zimbra.

The log file output doesn't shed any light on this problem for me as it doesn't appear to even mention the smtp server by name (smtp.ndo.com), or it's port number (25) which is strange. Maybe someone on the Zimbra team can shed some light and fix this basic problem. You'll find the logfile output after my signature below.
