Question Cache is out of date or doesn´t exist

    Hello everybody,

I'm a new user to Zimbra and installed it on a fresh Ubuntu Server 7.10. It didn't work out from scratch therefore the uname had to be changed to Ubuntu 6 as the installer avoids 7.x.
So the installation worked but I got the same message as her in http://www.zimbra.com/forums/install...ion-fails.html:
    Code:
Unable to determine enabled services from ldap.
Unable to determine enabled services. Cache is out of date or doesn't exist.
So I changed the four empty entries:
    Code:
    zmlocalconfig -e ldap_url=ldap://myhost.domain.com:389
    zmlocalconfig -e ldap_master_url=ldap://myhost.domain.com:389
    zmlocalconfig -e ldap_port=389
    zmlocalconfig -e ldap_host=myhost.domain.com
    After a new
    Code:
    zmcontrol start
I get the same message again. And yes, the file /opt/zimbra/.zmcontrol.cache that seems to get addressed here did not exist. I did a
    Code:
    touch /opt/zimbra/.zmcontrol.cache
as root and chowned it to zimbra:zimbra but it did not change its behaviour. The script zsetup.pl also does not exist. What might be wrong?

Now you've made those changes have you tried a re-install?

No, because I understood the other thread as those entries being the only ones that were missing and a new installation would overwrite them with empty values again.

As far as I know it doesn't/shouldn't zero those entries, I am assuming that you have correct DNS A & MX records plus a valid /etc/hosts file. Anyway, you could make a backup of the current installation and retry the install.

BTW, I assume you are a single server install? If so, the usual LDAP problems are caused by DNS errors. Have a look at the wiki article on troubleshooting LDAP. Were there any errors in the installation logs, did you ever check them?
