    Hi silbro and phoenix,

could you specify which changes exactly did you make to hostname and hosts file?

    I have the same problem...

    Thanks!

That information is all over the forums and the Quick Start Installation Guide as well as the wiki article on Split DNS (which you need if you're behind a NAT router).

    phoenix,

I have reading two days forums and the Quick Start installation Guide, which says: "Hostname: The host name configured in the operating system installation"
Maybe I have read the solution and it's in my face... but i'm no able to see it (it mus be really very easy...).

I followed "http://wiki.zimbra.com/index.php?title=Ubuntu_8.04_LTS_Server_%28Hardy_He ron%29_Install_Guide#Installing_ZCS" and "http://www.howtoforge.com/perfect-server-ubuntu8.04-lts-p4" step by step and after reading a lot of threads and realize that a lot of people got the same problem... I don't believe why I'm still looking for. For sure is a problem with DNS but every guide i foloow every thread i follow i don't find my error. The only thing I didn't made was "One more step to get it to work: You must rename the named.conf.local to named.conf" in "http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=236093".

And then I saw this thread which says SOLVED! but the solutions is linked to my sources...

Must I use "mailhost.domain.com" as hostname? my one is "ubuntu.domain.com"... I don't think so but I did errors in any step of the Guides.

    root@ubuntu:/# hostname
    ubuntu.domain.com

    root@ubuntu:/# hostname -f
    ubuntu.domain.com

    root@ubuntu:/# hostname
    ubuntu.domain.com

    root@ubuntu:/# cat /etc/resolv.conf
    search domain.com
    nameserver 172.16.1.7

    root@ubuntu:/# cat /etc/hosts
    127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost
    172.16.1.7 ubuntu.domain.com ubuntu

    root@ubuntu:/# host $(hostname)
    Host ubuntu not found: 3(NXDOMAIN)

    root@ubuntu:/# /etc/init.d/hostname.sh start

    root@ubuntu:/# host $(hostname)
    Host ubuntu.domain.com.domain.com not found: 2(SERVFAIL)

    Any clue please?

    Thanks

The clue is in the error message, you have your DNS records configured incorrectly.

I solved it. But not fixing any DNS config. I had to reinstall again everything and ommiting some step. I will explain in the other post of the Guide because here doesn't have sense.

Well i have the same problem and like you i was looking for answers here and other sites but i didn't find a way to solve this error.

Anyway, here's the commands that i used to start ldap without problems:

    /opt/zimbra/libexec/zmsetservername -n SERVERNAME

this command set ldap_master_url, ldap_url and ldap_port but only to be sure.

    zmlocalconfig -e ldap_master_url=ldap://SERVERNAME:390
    zmlocalconfig -e ldap_url=ldap://SERVERNAME:390
    zmlocalconfig -e ldap_port=390

    i hope this help you

    Hi!
Again with problems... I tryed to install Zimbra again and I got the famous problem:

    root@zimbra-srv:~$ zmcontrol status
Unable to determine enabled services from ldap.
Unable to determine enabled services. Cache is out of date or doesn't exist.

I thought, I could fix it with Zahit's commands like the last time but unfortunately not...

Now I get this message when I try to start Zimbra:

    zimbra@zimbra-srv:~$ zmcontrol start
    Host zimbra-srv
    Starting ldap...Done.
    Failed.
ldap_url and ldap_master_url cannot be the same on an ldap replica

    Any Ideas?

    Thanks in advance
