Default [SOLVED] can't start zimbra server

    hello,

I successfully installed the zimbra server on a ubuntu server edition. I have my own dns server. zimbra sais it cant find the mx entry even though i got one. but maybe i did something wrong there. anyways what troubles me is the following 2 lines when trying to start the server:

Unable to determine enabled services from ldap.
Unable to determine enabled services. Cache is out of date or doesn't exist.

i have ldap deactivated as far as i know. dunno what to do when those messages appear. i saw a thread where someone had the exact same problem but he never replied when asked for his log so there is no solution to find there would appreciate it if someone could help me. btw im just installing this server for fun at home to try it a bit. this is a very interesting project!

    greetings,
    silvio

I guess my next steps will be reinstalling ldap and zimbra. Mabye it'll solve the problem, I think I'll also check out the problem with the mx entry in my dns... would have been cool though if someone had given me an idea, tip

The answrer to the problem is in the first post, it's a DNS problem. You'll need a correctly set DNS A & MX records plus a correct /etc/hosts file.

I've checked once more my /etc/hosts, and it ok, DNS too. I can send mail, receive and generally everything works.
    The only thing wrong is:

Unable to determine enabled services from ldap.
Unable to determine enabled services. Cache is out of date or doesn't exist.
    send to admin@maydomain.com

May this problem be connected to DNS? to /etc/hosts?

Maybe it is nor wrong? If it is so, why this info is send multiple times to admin?
    (my dist is Debian 4)

this error was due to my wrong entry in the hostname and hosts file. I didn't have the file like zimbra wanted. ubuntu wise the file was correct.

    Hi silbro and phoenix,

could you specify which changes exactly did you make to hostname and hosts file?

    I have the same problem...

    Thanks!

That information is all over the forums and the Quick Start Installation Guide as well as the wiki article on Split DNS (which you need if you're behind a NAT router).
