Default Installing Zimbra on a Slicehost VPS

    Hi There,

I have a VPS machine on Slicehost. The machine is running Ubuntu 7.10 64-bit edition. I have followed this tutorial http://www.zimbra.com/forums/install...t-install.html for installing zimbra on 64-bit machines, and it all seems fine until the last part of installing packages (i assume) were i get:

    ### OUTPUT BEGINS ###
    Installing packages
    zimbra-core......zimbra-core_5.0.2_GA_1975.UBUNTU6_i386.deb...done zimbra-ldap......zimbra-ldap_5.0.2_GA_1975.UBUNTU6_i386.deb...done zimbra-logger......zimbra-logger_5.0.2_GA_1975.UBUNTU6_i386.deb...done zimbra-mta......zimbra-mta_5.0.2_GA_1975.UBUNTU6_i386.deb...done zimbra-snmp......zimbra-snmp_5.0.2_GA_1975.UBUNTU6_i386.deb...done zimbra-store......zimbra-store_5.0.2_GA_1975.UBUNTU6_i386.deb...done zimbra-apache......zimbra-apache_5.0.2_GA_1975.UBUNTU6_i386.deb...done zimbra-spell......zimbra-spell_5.0.2_GA_1975.UBUNTU6_i386.deb...done

/usr/bin/perl: symbol lookup error: /opt/zimbra/zimbramon/lib/i486-linux-gnu-thread-multi/auto/IO/IO.so: undefined symbol: Perl_Tstack_sp_ptr

    ### OUTPUT ENDS ###

I checked your forum, and i read that this problem could be due to DNS configuration problems. However, i think that my DNS is working fine. I have set up DNS records through an online utility that the hosting company provides.

I checked the following tutorial on installing Zimbra on Ubuntu, http://wiki.zimbra.com/index.php?tit..._Install_Guide , and it seems that my DNS is set up nicely. I can ping outside servers (google.com) and when i do an nslookup on my domain name, i get back the following:

    ### OUTPUT BEGINS ###

Server: 67.207.128.5 (which is some IP address at Slicehost)
    Address: 67.207.128.5#53

    Non-authoritative answer:
    Name: mydomain.net

    ### OUTPUT ENDS ###
Address: the ip address that i get when i ping/nslookup my domain from home
    [/CODE]

I am not 100% sure, but it seems that DNS is working fine (right?) so, what could be going wrong ?

    Any help here please ?

    Thanks,

    Yeah, your DNS is fine.

The wiki page is a hack. Hacks only take you so far.

We'll be releasing 5.0.3 with 64 bit ubuntu support soon. We have no plans to ever support ubuntu 7. Stick with an LTS version. It's for servers. Just because the version's higher doesn't make it better.

    We'll be supporting 8

Thanks for your help. I'll be on the lookout for any new updates/releases. I'll also give it another try on my slice and see what happens.

    Thanks,

Go for it! We encourage "boldly going where no admin has gone before". We'll try to help out if we can. But this is a perl issue. Perl is very picky
