Default ZCS(OSE) 4.5.11 Restoring Backup - Missing blob problem

    Hi,

We are trying to restore ZCS 4.5.11 (OSE) on our backup machine.
Done it so many times before (no problem encountered) but this time
it came up with an error when we try to view several mails (see below).
    Missing blob:

It didn' t record any error upon installation and re-installation. All zimbra
services are running fine. We tried to run zmfixperms but to no avail.

BTW, we follow everything what is said on this page,
    http://www.zimbra.com/blog/archives/...er_server.html

Can someone share their thoughts about it?

    su - root
    chown -R zimbra:zimbra /opt/zimbra/*
    cd /opt/zimbra/libexec/
    ./zmfixperms

If that doesn't fix it, then you didn't get a full backup

Unless the zmfixperm has been changed since I did my server move, it does not fix the permissions in the store or the index. I had to do that manually after two attempts at the zmfixperm route. I was receiving the same "blob" error.

    Hi Bill,

What do you mean by manually changing the permission?

BTW, the problem is still there after we followed jholder.

The /opt/zimbra/store and /opt/zimra/index directories and all sub-directories and files need to be owned by zimbra.

I believe the "chown" command is what you need to use. I used the KDE GUI to manage files on my server and the ownership can be changed from the properties dialog sheet.

Bill is right. We don't chown the blob dirs because this can be tasking

    sudo /bin/bash
    chown -R zimbra:zimbra /opt/zimbra/
    su - zimbra
    zmcontrol stop
    cd /opt/zimbra/libexec
    ./zmfixperms

    Still to no avail.

By the way here's how we're doing our backup/restore:

    1. From our actual mail server, we run rsynch to copy /opt/zimbra folder
to our backup machine. Here is where we keep our backups.

    2. On this backup machine we're doing the restoration process by following
the above instructions (rsynch to /opt/zimbra) and run the upgrade.

    3. As you've said manually change the permissions and/or run ./zmfixperms.
We just found this error after running ./zmfixperms,
find: /opt/zimbra/lib/ext-common: No such file or directory
find: /opt/zimbra/lib/ext-common: No such file or directory
which we don't know if it is vital or not.

Do you still have something in mind?

    Thanks for the time guys.

    Cheers,
    TISADMIN

If you're still missing a blob, then it's probable that you really are...and it's not a perms issue. Are you sure you're getting a full rsync?

We're using this command "rsync -arlHKpogDt" and it is tested
working for over a year before we upgraded to 4.5.11(OSE).

Don't know what to tell ya

If it were a perms issue, then chown would have fixed it.

BTW, you don't need all those switches. Just use -ar with an optional v

If you're indicating that this is a result of the upgrade, you're mistaken. This isn't a result of the upgrade, it's a result of not getting a full backup.

Considering I wrote the original backup and restore procedure for the Open Source Edition, I'm sure it works.

Sorry. If you find out any more, please do let us know. We're here to help

    Good luck
