Unhappy Trying to setup on Fedora FC4

    Hi,

Having no luck at all trying to get started installing Zimbra on an FC4 box after four or five hours so thought i'd break down and ask a question. It looks like one of the problems is that zimbra can't connect to the database:

I can connect to the zimbra database using root, but I don't know what the password is supposed to be for the 'zimbra' user or where that is set in the application. Any ideas how to debug this problem?

    Thanks,
    Sean

    Kevin,

That entry already existed in the hosts file, so I don't think that's it. If I start mysql myself things get a little futher, but if I knew where to find the proper mysql 'zimbra' users password I could test connecting manually to see if that is working too.

On another front I actually see more errors in the log:

    Sep 10 01:34:13 localhost zimbramon[25594]: 25594:info: start app mtaconfig
    Sep 10 01:34:13 localhost zimbramon[25594]: 25594:err: Can't start running app mtaconfig
    Sep 10 01:34:13 localhost zimbramon[25594]: 25594:info: start app postfix
Sep 10 01:34:13 localhost zimbramon[25594]: 25594:err: SMTP RESPONSE: FAILURE from localhost: problem connecting to "localhost", port 25: Connection refused
    Sep 10 01:34:13 localhost zimbramon[25594]: 25594:info: Starting child postfix: (20050910013413)
Sep 10 01:34:32 localhost zimbramon[25594]: 25594:err: SMTP RESPONSE: FAILURE from localhost: problem connecting to "localhost", port 25: Connection refused
    Sep 10 01:34:34 localhost zimbramon[25594]: 25594:crit: doStartup

It seems postfix ends up running on port 7075 rather than port 25 and no administrator page is available on port 7071...

I'm thinking I should just start over with the source distribution and see if I have better luck.

Ok as long as your hostname is not in that same /etc/hosts line and the localhost line exactly as I posted it is first in the /etc/hosts file you should be ok.

The MTA does run on port 7075 and is mapped via iptables to port 25 for service.

The admin UI is SSL only so make sure your going to:

    https://:7071/zimbraAdmin/

    Kevin,

Thanks for your pointers. After reinstalling things worked much better and I'm through to the admin page now. My guess is that I had mysql already running during my first install attempt and it fouled things up quite badly.

    Default mysql password

To find the mysql password, use zmlocalconfig -s zimbra_mysql_password - this will display the password.
