I had my exchange server just die for my home network, so of course I wasn't backing it up Anyhow, I looked into some alternate solutions, so I setup zimbra which wasn't too bad of an experience.
My problem is how I had exchange setup - it was fairly easy to do in exchange, but I am somewhat lost with Zimbra and I have no idea what to search for. Here's the scenario:
Mail server host was set as mail.mydomain.local and sits behind the firewall
Public domain and email is hosted at Godaddy using mydomain.com.
I set a public MX record for mydomain.com to point to my mail server, and opened the corresponding ports to the server.
For outbound email, I redirect through their smtp server as I could never fully lock exchange down to stop allowing relays without blocking me from sending
So outbound would forward to smtpout.secureserver.net with proper credentials.
I think that is the jist of it. I have a freshly installed server, using mydomain.local as everything and I tested zimbra locally w/ thunderbird and it works internally. Can anyone advise me how to get to the outside world properly? Thanks in advance.
