    Default zimbra problems receiving/sending

    Hello,

    I finally got zimbra installed but now I am having problems sending and receiving email.
    first off lets call my fqdn zimbra.domain.com.
    I have a mx record for domain.com and a Cname for zimbra.
    I then have my router forwarding all ports listed in the documentation to zimbra.domain.com.

    hosts file has the required entry.
    127.0.0.1 for localhost and then an entry with public ip address and fqdn.

    I am on Rogers so I have to relay. I have followed every post (and there are many) about doing this and I don't know why its still not working. I have finally changed from rogers to my own server in Colocation that allows relaying with authentication on port 26, same problem.

    When I try to send a message from Zimbra I get:
    Code:
     at java.lang.Thread.run(Thread.java:595)
    Caused by: javax.mail.SendFailedException: Invalid Addresses;
      nested exception is:
            class com.sun.mail.smtp.SMTPAddressFailedException: 554 : Relay access denied

    I have created a file and entered my mail.domain.com (for my other server) and id@domain.comassword
    (it requires authentication with the @domain.com)
    and ran postmap on it.
    I have sent many test messages from my yahoo and another email address to my server and I have not received them.

    here is part of my config file.

    Code:
    transport_maps = ldap:/opt/zimbra/conf/ldap-transport.cf

    # If (email domain name == host name), we don't want $myhostname in
    # mydestination for testing purposes.
    mydestination = localhost.localdomain localhost

    # Disable NIS which is in the default
    alias_maps = hash:/etc/aliases

    # for security...
    allow_mail_to_commands =
    allow_mail_to_files =

    smtpd_helo_required = yes

    smtpd_client_restrictions = reject_unauth_pipelining

    smtpd_data_restrictions = reject_unauth_pipelining

    smtpd_recipient_restrictions = reject_non_fqdn_recipient, permit_sasl_authenticated, permit_mynetworks, reject_invalid_hostname, reject_non_fqdn_sender, reject_unauth_destination, permit

    broken_sasl_auth_clients = yes

    smtpd_use_tls = yes
    smtpd_tls_cert_file = /opt/zimbra/conf/smtpd.crt
    smtpd_tls_key_file = /opt/zimbra/conf/smtpd.key
    smtpd_tls_loglevel = 3

    message_size_limit = 10240000
    content_filter = smtp-amavis:[127.0.0.1]:10024
    myhostname = zimbra.lumacs.com
    recipient_delimiter =
    smtpd_sasl_auth_enable = yes
    smtpd_tls_auth_only = yes
    disable_dns_lookups = yes
    smtp_sasl_password_maps = hash:/opt/zimbra/postfix-2.2.5/conf/passwd
    smtp_sasl_security_options =
    smtp_sasl_auth_enable = yes
    relayhost = mail.relaydomain.com:26
    Any ideas?
    if you would like any more info please let me know.

    You said you were having problems sending and receiving.

    Sending:

    Your relay host looks right, but it's failing to accept the smtp auth stuff. Is your relay mta set up to use smtp auth? What MTA is it running? If postfix, what's in the recipient_restrictions config?

    Receiving:

    You didn't give any details on this, but one thing stands out:

    I finally got zimbra installed but now I am having problems sending and receiving email.
    first off lets call my fqdn zimbra.domain.com.
    I have a mx record for domain.com and a Cname for zimbra.
    I then have my router forwarding all ports listed in the documentation to zimbra.domain.com.
    Just to clarify - the host zimbra.domain.com is hosting mail for the domain domain.com. The MX record for domain.com points to the host zimbra.domain.com, for which you have an A record? Please note, MX record hosts should only point to A records, NOT CNAMES - using a CNAME for an MX record doesn't always work.

    Hi,

    Thanks for the reply,

    as to the first questions I am not really sure. I think my host uses postfix, I don't have root access. BUT I did use my isps smtp server which is rogers and some on this forum have been successfull with rogers.
    I tried:
    smtp.broadband.rogers.com:25 as well as a port in the 400 range that a rogers member suggested in another post.
    in the passwd file I have similar info when I try to use rogers.
    smtp.broadband.rogers.com userid@rogers.comassword

    what is strange is that I use my rogers account in outlook to send email with authentication and its fine.

    here is an interesting fact.

    I sent an email using mail from the command line to a valid user on my new testing server (zimbra) and cced my work email address.

    I never received it whithin the test server but I received it at work.

    does that meen anything to you?

    Do a search on MX records and incoming mail, as well as look at your postfix logs. All of this has been covered in these forums.

    ya I have been reading those since yesterday trying to figure this out

    my domain is on the same ip as zimbra.mydomain.com
    I only have one ip so I use a router so forward the ports
    how would that work for mx records?

    right now I have mx records pointing to zimbra.domain.com
    but zimbra.domain.com is not a A record its a cname. because the A record id domain.com itself as I only have one ip.

    Thanks

    Truly apreciate it

    Set up another A record pointing to the same IP, or change the MX record to point to the hostname that has the A record.

    thanks,

    when I do a postqueue -p I can see my emails,
    each has
    BE0D116606D0 3299 Tue Feb 28 14:20:54 lpmartineau@rogers.com
    (connect to zimbra.lumacs.com[72.57.46.75]: Connection refused)
    luma@lumacs.com

    I am going to research this on the forums as I am sure I am not the first.

    Thanks

    make sure the ip address it's connecting to is correct, and that port 25 and 7025 are open.

    ok the problem with receiving mail has been fixed.

    I overlooked the settings in my router and had made a typo with port 7025.

    how stupid that was

    now to fix the relay problem

    if I do command: mail lpmartineau@yahoo.com
    type a subject and a body I do receive the email
    it comes from zimbra@zimbra.lumacs.ca
    but I can't send from inside of zimbra itself (using a valid user)

    going to go threw some forum posts and recheck the settings.

    Questions:
    Code:
    message_size_limit = 10240000
    content_filter = smtp-amavis:[127.0.0.1]:10024
    myhostname = zimbra.lumacs.com
    recipient_delimiter =
    smtpd_sasl_auth_enable = yes
    smtpd_tls_auth_only = yes
    disable_dns_lookups = yes
    smtp_sasl_password_maps = hash:/opt/zimbra/postfix-2.2.5/conf/passwd
    smtp_sasl_security_options =
    smtp_sasl_auth_enable = yes
    relayhost = smtp.broadband.rogers.com:25
    is that info correct?
    on the forums I noticed some posts show a tad different than that but others show exactly what I have.
