Default ZCS upgrade 5.0.6 -> 5.0.9 on VM with Ubuntu 8.04: now not starting up at boot

    Hello,

I am running ZCS Open Source on a VMWare Server 1.06 virtual machine, which is using Ubuntu Server 8.04 as the OS. After upgrading from 5.0.6 to 5.0.9 (which went well itself), the ZCS does not start on boot anymore.

    after su zimbra
    zmcontrol status shows the following:

    Host x.x.x
    antispam Stopped
    zmamavisdctl is not running
    antivirus Stopped
    zmamavisdctl is not running
    zmclamdctl is not running
    ldap Running
    logger Running
    mailbox Stopped
    zmmailboxdctl is not running
    mta Stopped
    postfix is not running
    saslauthd is not running
    zmsaslauthdctl is not running
    snmp Stopped
    swatch is not running
    spell Stopped
Apache not running. No PID file found.
    zmapachectl is not running
    stats Stopped

I have checked the init.d: zimbra script is there,
    in rc0.d there is S99zimbra
in rc1.d no zimbra script (bind, klogd and sysklogd start here)
    in rc2.d there are K01zimbra and S99zimbra
    in rc3.d there are K01zimbra and S99zimbra
    in rc4.d K01zimbra and S99zimbra
    in rc5.d K01zimbra and S99zimbra
    in rc6.d K01zimbra and S99zimbra

I have an automated backup, which requires ZCS and the VM to be stopped.
If the boot up leaves Zimbra in an unfunctional position,
I cannot use the backup procedure.

Where should I start looking for the cause?
    Any ideas, please?

    Olli

    Default Possible work around

I thought had the same issue with a fresh install of 8.04 and Zimbra 5.0.9

I rebooted and kept checking /var/log/zimbra.log. I realized that Zimbra was starting, it was just taking about 6 minutes to fully get started. I was getting impatient every time, thought it had failed to start, and manually started it.

I am running it on very old hardware...
