Default Contacts showing in Mac Mail

    Hi All,

When you use the web console, you are able to press the "To" button and it brings up a list of everyone on our Zimbra server. From here you can easily select everyone to email to.

I use Mac Mail and have no way of mass emailing without typing in everyone manually. When I type an Address in it does Auto Complete the Address, however I have no way of bringing up the full list of users on our Zimbra Server when using Mac Mail. When mass emailing I have to revert to the web based version.

Does this make sense to anyone? Is this how Zimbra works or is there some way I can set this up within Mac Mail (which I guess just uses Address Book)

Is there something more I need to add under Address Book preferences? I have our email server added under "LDAP" I also have the iSync Connector and am able to sync my Address Book and iCal.

Interested to hear any responses from others who use Mac Mail and if they have access to this feature or not.

    Thanks !

What version of MAC OS X are you running on your client side and what version of Zimbra are you running?

We are running OS X 10.4.x and 10.5.x for our clients and using Zimbra NE 5.0.11 and have never had a problem using LDAP features through Mail, even in prior versions of Zimbra.

Hi thanks for the reply. I started taking care of the Zimbra server since it was 5.0.2. I took it to 5.0.6 and now 5.0.11 (my profile version is accurate). In all versions I have had the LDAP problem I stated (ie. it will auto complete emails, but won't show an entire list of all our email users).

I have been running OSX Leopard 10.5.4, 10.5.5 and just recently upgraded to the newest 10.5.6. In all revisions I have had this problem.

Am I missing something in the LDAP setup within address book ? I have it pointing to our email server but maybe some of the other options are not complete (ie. the search base part)

Is there something server side I need to set up?

Thanks for your reply and any further assistance !

It doesn't appear that Mail offers that same functionality, a blank LDAP search that returns all users in the system. It simply does a matching search based on the name that you start typing in the "To" or "CC" fields.

ok thats interesting, so you are seeing the same behavior as I am ? The reason I ask is I have had a ticket open with Zimbra but they are still unable to pin point my problem but have reported that others have this working. I guess I'm trying to establish whether its me and a setting I'm missing or if this is normal behaviour.

The auto complete works fine which is the main thing, the problem occurs when I am wanting to email everyone or a lot of people in our own domain. I have to revert to the web console in that case.

For us, we've never had Mail's address fields do automatic drop-downs into our LDAP unless it's doing some auto-complete. That functionality sounds more like a feature of Zimbra. I'm no sure if it works on other clients the same way (i.e., Outlook).
