    Default Cannot determine services

    Hello

When typing zmcontrol status i get the following error : cannot determine services - exiting ...

I then stopped all services - zmcontrol stop - all done
Then i restart all services - zmcontrol start - only ldap starts

I must state though that i got the LDAP error during installation :

    (COS...ERROR:service.FAILURE(system failure:getDirectContext) etc...

    I tried this :

ps auxww | grep zimbra | grep slapd

Then got the desired output :

    /opt/zimbra/openldap/libexec/slapd -l LOCAL0 -4 -u zimbra -h ldaps:// ldap://:389/ -f /opt/zimbra/conf/slapd.conf

Then to see if zimbra is detecting it i run : ldap status

It returns the process with it's pid no problem.

I can see that only ldap starts when running the services.

Is this an upgrade or a new install? Has it only just happened? What does zmhostname return, is it the correct hostname?
    Regards

It's a new install. It's on a newly rebuilt FC4 distro. I can post the zimbra.log file but it's huge.

Is your DNS set-up correctly? Is your /etc/hosts file set-up correctly?
    Regards

I get a DNS error each time when installing. Here is my /etc/hosts file :

    10.0.0.3 serv.amemattex.com serv localhost.localdomain localhost

I'm a bit lost on configuring this file though as i don't fully understand MX records, A records etc ...

I want my server to be set up as serv.amemattex.com but i have a problem. My domain amemattex.com is on another computer on the internet. How would i make my local server accessible to users on my LAN through serv.amemattex.com ??

I suspect that it's this problem which is hindering my installation.

    Yes, that's correct.

OK, your hosts file should look like this:

    Code:
    127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost
    10.0.0.3 serv.amemattex.com serv
Do you have a DNS server installed on your LAN? If you do then you need to follow the instructions in this post.

If this is a new insall I would suggest removing Zimbra by running './install.sh -u' which will uninstall and remove the zimbra directories. You should also make sure there's no zimbra services left running, if there is just kill them. When you've done that just follow the DNS instructions and change the hosts file and then run the install again.
    Regards

No, i don't have a DNS server running on my LAN. Should i just un-install then re-install Zimbra ? I've downloaded the latest version (3.1.0).

You will need to make the changes to your hosts file. Do you have an external MX record pointing to your zimbra server?

I have already corrected the /etc/hosts file as per your instructions. Have also uninstalled Zimbra completely. (Got a slapcat: bad configuration file error but unistallation went ok).
