ok, I stopped zimbra, checked all processes were stopped, started zimbra again.

    "zmcontrol -v" shows me this:

    Release 5.0.14_GA_2850.RHEL4_20090303132820

Ok, we are getting closer I think.

In the mailbox.log I see this

    009-04-27 10:28:35,280 WARN [btpool0-2] [] SoapEngine - unable to construct SOAP context
    com.zimbra.cs.account.AccountServiceException: no such account: @domain
    ExceptionId:btpool0-2:1240820915280:c29acffced50ff38
    Code:account.NO_SUCH_ACCOUNT
Where @domain is the domain I place after admin, so admin@domain

The hosts file looks like this:
    # Do not remove the following line, or various programs
    # that require network functionality will fail.
    127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost
    x.x.x.x webmail.domain webmail
where x.x.x.x is the ip-adress and domain is the domain as used as above.

Ok, I followed the directions in the post, but the problem still occurs, is there anyway to create a new admin from the cli and use this?

So are you using the short username or the long username to connect to the Admin GUI ? Does it make a difference ?

I use the following to logon:

    admin@domain

if I use only admin I get an authentication failure on the web page.

If that's the case you don't have 'domain' set as the default domain - set it and you can login with just the username. Have you checked that your DNS A & MX records for you domain are correct?
