Default Zimbra Web Interface connecting to external server

I want to try to install the Zimbra Web Interface, but have it connect to a remote LDAP, IMAP and CALDAV server. I see that something similar is done with Oracle Collaboration Suite (Beehive), so I think that its possible. This is mostly an experiment I would like to do to put a web based interface on a caldav only server, and mail access is just a side-effect .

Does the /zimbra web app use standard protocols like IMAP/CALDAV/LDAP/etc to access backend services, or does it connect directly to the "data store" ?

    Thanks,
    Tommy

Zimbra is a fully functional integrated email suite.
it support all those servcies you need in itself without any external integration.

what you are trying to do is use PART of zimbra (i.e: web interface) and connect it to your backends..this is not at all possible the way you want it.

you should use zimbra as a full stand alone email colab. software and you can use all the services it offers.

We have tried ZCS Network Edition, and were not satisfied with it from a globally scaled Enterprise infrastructure perspective. I don't remember all of the list, but I think the lack of email calendar reminders was one key item. Lack of Solaris support also bothers me. I assume progress has been made, and it might be worth re-evaluating. You are correct. I have a CalDAV server that I am testing for someone, and they do not yet have a web interface. I guess I figured if it worked on Oracle Beehive, then it probably would work for this?

Perhaps I mis-understood the whole "open source" and "community" thing?

    Thanks for your time,
    Tommy

Zimbra is not a "collection of apps", it's a "black box" install. You get everything, or you get nothing. Simple as that.

You can't install the web UI by itself, you can't install the LDAP by itself, you can't use non-Zimbra server components, etc.

Think of it more as a single application, instead of a suite of apps.

OSS version Zimbra "IS" fully open source (100% souce avail) and also tons of prebuild binaries and OSS verion have full community support right here.

if you have questions about whats supported or whats not its avail here
    Zimbra - Product Editions
    or more detail features list
    http://files.zimbra.com/website/docs...ure%20List.pdf

if anything is missing anyone can take the souce and happily integrate stuff in it as desired.

    Question Oracle Beehive

Oracle Beehive claims to have a Zimbra Web Interface integrated with their Email solution? I have not personally used it, but that is what their site claims. If we were to do it in another environment, as in have my own Email Server but only use Zimbra Web Client Interface, can I do that?
