    Default LDAP problem

    Hi,

I am newbie in mail administrator. I just have been chosen as one of the mail server administrator in my college. Justly said I have no prior experience in building mail server and it's environment. I am using linux fedora 11 and Zimbra 6.0 Open Source Edition for Redhat Fedora 11 (Am I in right track?).

Before installing zimbra I made sure I already installed all the prequisite :
    - Java development kit (jdk)
    - Apache ant
    - gcc
    - rpm-build
    - which

    My OS doesn’t have (I don’t install) :
    - sendmail
    - httpd (apache)
    - postfix
After thus, I am running the install.sh script and it is what I got :
    Installing LDAP….. FAILED (28928)

For more information, my college network have :
    1 DNS Server
1 LDAP server (at ldapserv.domainname as the hostname)
I have already trying to check on my LDAP using this command :
    # Host ldap-serv.domainname
    And
    #ping ldap-serv.domainname
And it’s giving good response sounded the ldap server is running okay.
    Here is some note :
In my ns server, there is another ldap named ldap which is already. It’s called ldap.
    e.g. if you type
    #host ldap.domainname
It will give you an address to the “dead-already” machine
    And
    #ping ldap.domainname
Will give you bad response sounded the host is none.
Will it have any problem to my zimbra installation?
Since DNS Server is not in my reach and I should talk to the one handling it (if it do have any problem for my zimbra installation). If it’s not please help me to trouble shoot this problem. please help me to resolve this problem..

    Welcome to the forums

Sounds like a DNS issue so please post the following
    Code:
    cat /etc/hosts
    cat /etc/resolv.conf
    dig yourdomain mx
    dig yourdomain any
host `hostname` <- note backticks and not single quotes - just copy and paste
