Question 389 Directory Server as backend

    hi,

i would like to use 389 Directory Server as full backend for zimbra, not just auth.

    Did anyone tried this?

I have a working multi-master structure and i prefer 389 over OpenLDAP for several reasons.

I've been reading Multi Master Guide Zimbra™ Collaboration Suite

and as far as i know it should be possible importing the schema and pointing MTA and Mailbox Server to 389 boxes.

is that correct? is there any other "under the hood" settings to consider?

i've also digged a little bit on the forums, but i can't find any positive information.

my company is considering commercial licensing, do you support this setup?

No, you can't do that. You need to use the openLDAP that's installed with Zimbra, it's shipped as a complete package and must be installed as such. That would also not be supported for an NE installation (if it were possible).

it seems that some people are asking for it.

It's not likely, the packages are tuned and installed for the use of Zimbra and using external packages isn't likely to give optimal performance for the a Zimbra installation.
