Default How to install Open Source Edition to my website?

    Hi guys,

I'm a tad computer illiterate, and I'm trying to understand how to install Zimbra to my actual website.

I downloaded the Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 .tgz file, extracted it, then uploaded all those files to my directory, but what do I do know?

Is there no installer/wizard? Does it matter that I'm on a shared host?

Thank you in advance for any help!

Hi, Zimbra is a Mail solution. It would matter that you are on a shared hosting... What is it that you would like to achieve? You would probably need to find out from your service provider what they support.

Thanks for the quick response GWilliams!

I'd like to have the mail and documents-sharing features that Zimbra offers, to replace the very basic and unappealing webmail that our host provides by default.

LOL... I understand how you feel.

Well, most providers restrict what can and can't be installed in a shared environment. You will probably need to contact their support desk in order to find out if you are able to execute the installer on their servers... You'll need to untar the .tgz file with:

tar zxvf "Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 .tgz"

This will extract the files, which you would then need to go to the folder it creates and execute the install script:

    ./install.sh

Alternatively, you could find out if your provider doesn't have a shared Zimbra hosting environment or find one that does.

    Hope this helps.
