Default Desperate about my hostst file

    Hello,

I`m new whit Zimbra. But what i have seen of it, was great.

So i have reinstalled my linux server and dit run the file install.sh
But then i get de following error:

ERROR: Installation can not proceeed. Please fix your /etc/hosts file

I know that there is some more information on google about this problem. I tried all the possible solutions but it didn`t work. I have a domain. I would like to connect the server with zimbra.domain.nl

Can somebody explain me where the hosts file is good for and what i have to change in this file and what i have to change in my DNS settings to my domain?

    (sorry for my bad English)

    Greetz,

    Welcome to the forums

Have you followed Zimbra™ Collaboration Suite Single Server Installation - Open Source as there is a specific section on how /etc/hosts should look ?

    Thanxs for your fast reply!

I did see something like this. I did read a installation guide but i think not this one. But i have a question... my server has got a internal ip address (192.168.1.210) and of course i have also external ip. Which one do i have to use on the second rule? And my second question... The first ip (127.0.0.1) is that always 127.0.0.1 or can that be different?

You will need to use the internal IP address and set up a split DNS architecture which is also configured in the link I provided.

Of course as long as your firewall is open I would recommend that you run Zimbra on HTTPS only which can be achieved, once you are up and running, by issuing the following
    Code:
    su - zimbra
    zmtlsctl https
    zmcontrol stop ; zmcontrol start

Go to the Split DNS article and in the 'Verify...' section you will see the required format of the hosts file (and it's all over these forums as well ).

yes and you will need to ensure that internally it resolves to the local IP 192.168.X.X and externally it reports back the public IP.
