Default [SOLVED] Zimbra security and error after 1st install

    Hi,

This is my very first install of Zimbra. Things went relatively well (after the first completely failed installed due to my not RTFM).

    I have a question :

The manual says to turn off iptables and any sort of firewall. Is this for install only, or does the firewall needs to stay turned off? If this is the case, isn't this a major problem? (or am I just paranoid due to my IT security background?)

It's not advisable to run the firewall nor SElinux/AppArmor on your Zimbra server

You can run Zimbra behind a firewall or NAT router without problems and there are users with a firewall running on the Zimbra server (check the wiki or forums for details). Obviously it's not a good idea to run the server directly on a public IP without protection so, is your server directly on a public IP, behind a firewall or NAT router?

Sorry for not specifying something so relevant. I am running my (test only, luckily) server at a cloud server provider, so I have to rely on the Linux firewall for now. No Router/firewall.

Here's a wiki article that details what you need for running the firewall on the Zimbra server.
