Default Ubuntu 6.10 Edgy Installation issues

Has anyone successfully installed Zimbra on Ubuntu Edgy (6.10)?
According to the install, the MX server never resolves correctly and I get the dreaded 256 install error, or zimbra-spell does not install depending on how I have my /etc/hosts set up.

I believe I have my split dns set up correctly, as when I nslookup mydomain.com or myserver.mydomain.com it resolves to 127.0.0.1 using the local machine (127.0.0.1) as the dns server.

    1. I'm behind a Linksys router with a static IP. I have set the A, CNAME, MX records in my registrars to point to this static IP for both mydomain.com and myserver.mydomain.com.

    2. LAN IP of the zimbra machine is 192.168.1.3 (127.0.0.1)

Before I get crazy and start posting tmp logs, could someone verify what my /etc/hosts should look like?

    Thanks,
    BT

It should resolve to the LAN IP address not loopback.

please do post back if you get it running - edgy has some radically new stuff like upstart, doesn't have runlevels, /etc/sysconfig etc

I'm not sure even if I was running Dapper that the results would be different. It seems that if LDAP doesnt resolve correctly, it hoses everything else up.

Does anyone have experience with setting up the "split" dns on a debian based system? and could someone please suggest a correct /etc/hosts file based on the above info?

    Thanks

Yes, if DNS can't resolve the IP then LDAP will fail.

The /etc/hosts file should contain the same information as other distributions. Have a look at the Zimbra quick start guide or search the forum for details.

I've followed a few howto's and have thus been unable to get it working. Are there any workarounds you can suggest? I cant be the only one having these issues. ;(

    Thanks

I've already mentioned what the problem is likely to be, you need A & MX records pointing to your LAN IP Address not the loopback and your hosts file should contain the details in the Zimbra quick start guide - does it meet those requirements. You need to post some details about your configuration and how DNS is setup so somebody can help you.

I've looked at the wiki and here's what I've come up with...
    My /etc/hosts:
    Code:
    127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost
    70.121.184.232 netvista.hellasent.com netvista
Which fails to resolve with the installation message:
    Code:
    ...Installing packages

        zimbra-core......zimbra-core_4.0.2_GA_362.UBUNTU6_i386.deb...done
        zimbra-ldap......zimbra-ldap_4.0.2_GA_362.UBUNTU6_i386.deb...done
        zimbra-logger......zimbra-logger_4.0.2_GA_362.UBUNTU6_i386.deb...done
        zimbra-mta......zimbra-mta_4.0.2_GA_362.UBUNTU6_i386.deb...done
        zimbra-snmp......zimbra-snmp_4.0.2_GA_362.UBUNTU6_i386.deb...done
        zimbra-store......zimbra-store_4.0.2_GA_362.UBUNTU6_i386.deb...done
        zimbra-apache......zimbra-apache_4.0.2_GA_362.UBUNTU6_i386.deb...done
        zimbra-spell......zimbra-spell_4.0.2_GA_362.UBUNTU6_i386.deb...done
    Operations logged to /tmp/zmsetup.log.7614
    Setting defaults...
            Interface: 192.168.1.3
            Interface: 127.0.0.1

DNS ERROR - none of the MX records for netvista.hellasent.com
    resolve to this host
    Change domain name? [Yes]...
Ok so I force it to continue and it does fail.

The install log is pretty long and I pasted it here:

    http://paste.ubuntu-nl.org/26356/

Edit: Now that I read over the logs, it looks like its having problems finding cacerts, which is located (on my machine) at:
    /etc/java-1.5.0-sun/security

No sure if its possible to link to it, or ?

    Any help would be appreciated.

try split dns. if you do:
    ifconfig -a
your eth0 probably says 192.168.1.3, whereas 70.121.184.232 is your external dns. zimbra doesnt want to know or see your external ip anywhere - all it needs to know about is the internal ip.
