    Default License issue with Migration/Install

Greetings. I have a customer running Zimbra (zcs-NETWORK-3.1.4_GA_518.RHEL4) on an existing box without issues. We want to move to a newer server, and upgrade to Zimbra 4.0 (Network ed.).

I originally thought we could build a new 4.0 box and migrate the mailboxes, but Zimbra Support stated it would be better to build the new server as the same version as the existing server (3.14) then migrate the mailboxes to the new server. Finally, we'd upgrade the new server to 4.0.

Simple enough, but I can't seem to get the 3.14_GA_518.RHEL4 installation on the new box to recognize the license file. I can't find a "zmlicense" script and I do not see a "license tab" in the global settings of the GUI. Is this one of those "trial license is embedded" versions?

How do I install (and register) a production (non-trial) version of 3.14x??

    Many thanks,
    -Dave

    Hi-
When you go into your support portal, and ask for the license to be mailed to you, it sends you the following:

    Licensing without an Upgrade:
You can install the license through the admin console
(https://youservername.yourdomain.com:7071/zimbraAdmin) in Global Settings' License tab.

    Licensing with an Upgrade:
Before the upgrade, place the license in /opt/zimbra/conf/ZCSLicense.xml on one of
the mailbox servers. The upgrade script will install it. Alternately, you can
install the license after the upgrade as described in "Licensing without an
    Upgrade" above.

The Zimbra Connector for Microsoft Outlook can be found on your Zimbra server at
    (Note: Replace "yourservername" and "yourdomain"
with your actual server name and domain):

    Thanks for the prompt reply.

However, I do not see the license tab in Global Settings.

I also tried installing (upgrading) 3.14 over itself with a ZCSLicense file in /opt/zimbra/conf and that did not work either.

NE on both the existing production server, and the new box we're going to migrate the mailboxes to.

I would try to run the installation program again, and this time, place your license file in the directory that the above instructions say.

    Is this a NE trial?

Yes, it appears to be a trial version. How do I get a "real" version 3.14?

Zimbra sent me a link to download the current v4 (which I've installed sucessfully elsewhere) but what I need is a *non-trial* version of 3.14 so I can do a server migration. Let me know if that doesn't make sense...

Thanks for your help, I appreciate it.

Yep, that's where I got the tgz file...

The problem has been resolved. I think the problem was file permissions on the ZCSLicense.xml file. Had to be owned (user/group) by zimbra with permissions 440:

    [root@server1 zcs]# ls -l /opt/zimbra/conf/ZCSLicense.xml
    -r--r----- 1 zimbra zimbra 1557 Oct 14 11:39 /opt/zimbra/conf/ZCSLicense.xml
The trial notice has been removed. Thanks again for all of your help!

    Didn't even think of that.
    Good job!
