    Default Initializing ldap...FAILED (256)

Ok all i have been struggling with the 4.0.4_GA_457.RHEL4-20061115174505 install on centos for a couple of days now. Reluctant to submit to the forums as they are so huge now i am guessing almost every possible question has been answered heehee. As always forgive me if this has been answered elsewhere and I would like to apologize in advance for the lengthy post hope the code brackets did not seem to work so i added a link to a text file on my ftp server.

During install/reinstall using the -u option of the install script I get this error

    Creating SSL certificate...Done
    Initializing ldap...FAILED (256)

    ERROR

    Configuration failed

Please address the error and re-run /opt/zimbra/libexec/zmsetup.pl to
    complete the configuration[root@mx1 zcs]#

This pointed me to the ldap wiki page and i tried the troubleshooting stuff there could not fit the entire message so the output is contained here

I haven't looked at your log yet but is this a new install or an upgrade? Is CentOS newly installed? If it is have you disabled the firewall and SElinux? I assume you have your DNS records set-up correctly?
    Regards

This is a new install however it has failed several times, but i have issued the ./install.sh -u command to completely remove previous attempts. Yes it is a fairly fresh and updated version of centos 4.4 i believe not on site right now so cannot get exact version number. Yes the firewall and SElinux were disabled during centos setup.

    Unhappy

I also have this error - although I am pretty sure this is due to me trying to use FC5's version of Zimbra on FC 6

I'm about to play with a source download as I have nothing better to do on a Sunday

What file are those changes made in ? I'm getting the same error and my router IS configured and I get connection refused when attempting to telnet to localhost on 389. I need to get this up and running and it just doesn't work!

    Exclamation preemptive responses

I checked around and saw several similar threads and took the initiative to answer questions I am quite sure I will be asked.
    1. OpenSSL is installed
    2. hosts shows LOCALLANIP fqhn hn
    3. have tried WANIP fqhn hn
    4. did ensure libssl.so.5 and libcrypto.so.5 were available in usr/lib - linked to libssl.so.0.9.8 and libcrypto.so.0.9.8

    Code:
    c0@com:/usr/lib$ ls -l | grep crypto

    Default Looking at Logs

If you notice in the above output that I had already linked libssl.so.0.9.7 to libssl.so.0.9.8 , this is because i saw a suspicious error the first time i tried to install zimbra. I looked at the installation log after the last post and saw that it couldn't find libcrypto.so.0.9.7, i linked it to libcrypto.so.0.9.8 and tried again.

New error this time. (Same error code Initializing LDAP....failed (256))
