Default Installing Zimbra Network 8.0 on Ubuntu 12.04 - howto?

    Hi everyone,

I'm trying to determine if Zimbra would be a good choice instead of SBS2011; so I'm trying to install Zimbra on Ubuntu 12.04.
I'm making a virtual installation using VMware, but have never installed Ubuntu...
Should I use the 'normal' version of Ubuntu? Or the server-version, I've searched for guidelines or a manual but can't find it...

Who might help this Zimbra 'n00b'?

    Hi,

if running under VMware I think the easiest its to go with the ZCS8 Appliance.

    or
    Download Ubuntu 12.04.1 Server 64-bit
Create a Linux VM (2 Disks 1 GB for System second for /opt/zimbra) and boot from the .iso
Do a basic installation - let the system decide on the first disk, for the second disk set mountpoint to /opt/zimbra
During Ubuntu installation you are asked for a user
After installing Ubuntu log into this user
Become root with "sudo -i" (Enter your password again)
    Download Zimbra 8
    untar Zimbra ("tar xvf ...")
    cd to the zcs directory
run ./install.sh -> there will some missing dependencies
install these with "aptitude install depnames"
run installation again - answer the questions

If you have no Linux knowledge - stay with SBS2011 or better use Office365!!

    Good Luck!

The Ubuntu version for ZCS is always LTS Server. I.e., Ubuntu 10.04 LTS Server edition or 12.whatever LTS server version.

Currently I'm managing 4 Zimbra OSEs installed on Ubuntu 10.04 (physical installations). Didn't have a single issue with zimbra itself. Now I'm testing 8.0 with Ubuntu 12.04 so far working fine.

I'm working on a step-by-step guide for installing Ubuntu Server 12.04.1 LTS (64-bit) and Zimbra 8.0.0 OSE with the intent of it being a production system.

I already have a similar guide for Ubuntu 10 and Zimbra 7.2.0

Type su - zimbra -c "zmcontrol -v" to get your version and copy that into your profile (more info here)
