* had to download a new version of the .ovf
I am now more than not best pleased - in fact who at Zimbra thinks you run a mail server on DHCP?
Which is what happens when I install.
I ask because this stage, stage 9 of the install instructions does not exist as I load the .ovf file
By stage 9 I mean these items .....
9. On the Networking Properties page, enter the following networking properties. Do not leave this information blank. A static IP address is required. Leaving these fields blank might result in the inability to use Zimbra Appliance after deployment.
Default gateway address for the virtual machine.
Domain name servers to use for the Zimbra Appliance. Use a comma to separate the names.
Network 1 IP Address
The Static IP address for the Zimbra Appliance.
Network 1 Netmask
The netmask or prefix to use.
Is there an ubuntu "hack" for this? or an alternative OVF file?
What is your expectation here?
Standard guideline is that mail server should run on static IP. Document provided here to guide the user in order to avoid future problems and save time(Users do make mistakes here). I think this is the best way to ask user about what network configuration user want to consider for the deployment. OVF modification as per your network configuration also a way but the approach used here is the best.
The installation is NOT giving us a fixed IP
The routine at item 9 does not appear
So we end up with a DHCP determined IP address
Or are you saying this is working as designed with no instructions about how to get to a fixed IP that works once it has gone through the routine and established DHCP other than playing with our network config once it is installed to "fix" the DHCP assigned IP address?
We spent five hours yesterday trying to get this to work - such a waste of time and money http://www.zimbra.com/forums/images/smilies/frown.png
https://bugzilla.zimbra.com/ with all the necessary details like exact product version(which you did not mention here), steps followed, if possible virtual infrastructure configurations details, expected results etc. This is open source community forum and people are voluntarily providing help to solve the problems. Quick search for installation/deployment of ZCS and Zimbra Appliance documentation will provide lots of information.
Are you installing ZCS or ZCA? ZCA runs Ubuntu10, but this thread says CentOS, which would imply ZCS.
And I can see this has been an issue for at least 12 months given dates on Bugzilla
This still doesn't seem like a straight answer to me. Are you doing ZCS or ZCA?
I would suggest deploying ZCS.
As it says above or in one of my recent posts in this forum I'm trying to install an .ova file called zca-188.8.131.52-1151542_OVF10
This is what I was pointed to download when I wanted the server appliance but seems to say "ZCA...." (Zimbra something Appliance?) when I was on a page referring to Zimbra Collaboration Server which I assume is what you mean by "ZCS" ?
Yes, the OVA is the appliance. Please look at just installing CentOS or RHEL OS and deploying ZCS instead.
