Err - OK - but what are the advantages? We chose the OVA route as we assumed you were approving Zimbra co-habiting with Ubuntu as this is bundled with OVA?

    and "RHEL" = Red Hat?

    Supported platforms are listed at:

    https://www.zimbra.com/downloads/ne-downloads.html

Of those, I would advise either RHEL6/CentOS6 or Ubuntu12 as they both have forward upgrade paths to ZCS9.

Ah - noted the change of owner of Zimbra - are you stopping developing OVA?

Should we consider that as a ringing endorsement?

Do not really want to fix DCHCP on the appliance (as in fact we have having had access to bugzilla) to find you are remaindering it!!

I don't work on the appliance, so I have no insight to when the issue will be fixed. Again, I would advise deploying ZCS and not the appliance.

OK - we have run up ZCS under Ubuntu - the list of packages needed to be loaded into Ubuntu to support Zimbra is not complete - also forgot VM 101 which was to load VMware tools before loading ZCS - not the least as we found 1gb of RAM in the VM was too little - we had to set up a swap file - it is far happier with 4gb RAM - was using about 2.3gb on the install.

Also have had to fix the IP /DHCP issue - this is really a VMware issue as opposed to a ZCS issue we now think - hence also loading VMware tools before ZCS and fixing the IP

Now to test mail sending etc on our test domain

I suggest a minimum of 4GB of RAM for ZCS8. There's a bug open to have the minimum requirements updated for the 8.0.5 release to reflect that.

Also, as far as packages required, it is noted in the installation documents that we assume a standard install of the OS, and not a stripped down installation. If you do a minimal installation, you definitely will need to track down what else is required beyond what the installer checks for.

    Glad you've made progress!

This was a standard installation from a down load from the Ubuntu web site of 12.04.02

    So are we!!

This am our task is to wade through the administration manual - it could be so much better written! Have you never asked a real world English language author / editor to work with you on this stuff?

We do this often in other worlds and in makes so much difference to otherwise very grumpy users

    Best
