Default Unable to start saslauthd on CentOs4.4

I am unable to start the MTA on my mail store.
I am receiving the following error:
saslauthd[20007] :set_auth_mech : failed to initialize mechanism zimbra
    zmsaslauthdctl failed to start

I am running zimbra 4.0.5 on CentOs 4.4.
A reinstall failed to give me any better results.

It looks like a proplem with Cyrus-sasl to me, but I am hoping that there is an easy fix.
Any suggestions on where to start the troubleshooting?

I do have the following rpm's installed, but did not check to see if this is a part of the install -
    cyrus-sasl-md5-2.1.19-5.EL4
    cyrus-sasl-plain-2.1.19-5.EL4
    cyrus-sasl-2.1.19-5.EL4

should they be removed or are they necessary?

Default reviewed the configuration and sasl seems correct.

I have compared with another installation and found that the sasl is correct.
I am stll unable to resolve the auth mechanism "zimbra"

    Default Thanks for the hand.

Yea. I cannot run the mta at this time. I have two MTA boxes set up. The network is configured with a mailstore behind a firewall (this is the one I have the problem with) and a second mta configured outside the firewall. Mail is configured for delivery by the outside Zimbra. The internal Web mail is handled by the primary mail store.

You've almost certainly got an empty value in the url setting in the saslauthd.conf file.

Default You are correct, though I did place a value in the config.

    /opt/zimbra/cyrus-sasl-2.1.21.ZIMBRA/etc/saslauthd.conf shows the following:

    zimbra_url:
    zimbra_cert_file: /opt/zimbra/conf/smtpd.crt
    zimbra_cert_check: off

Should I change the %%zimbraMtaAuthURL%% in the saslauthd.conf.in to something specific? Something like https://localhost/service/soap ? ?
