Question Zimbra Collaboration Server + Godaddy domain

I have domain registered at Godaddy and I want to set up Zimbra Collaboration Server for that domain.
VPS server with CentOS 6.5, 64bit and a public IP address are prepered (not with Godaddy).

Is it necessary to have DNS server such as Bind if I am going to host only one website and email for one domain?

What are pros and cons of having Bind in this settup?

Do you have to add Google's DNS 8.8.8.8 somewhere in settings?

    Hi TrueHobbit,
If you will work in Single-Server, just use the public DNS Server with all records, A, MX, PTR, and in your VPS use google DNS. With this config everything will works perfect.

In my opinion and telling the pros and cons, the best practice is use a Bind Server with a internal domain (yourcompany.local) for example, and then install and configure Zimbra with this configuration. Why? Because if someone will go wrong in the future with the godaddy DNS, or anything, you will not can start the zimbra server sometimes, or other many problems.

It is my advice, you can choose the easy and risky way, or the best practice way.

Also you can use your internal DNS if you have Microsoft Active Directory, but maybe you haven't. Bind Server inernal it will be the best option, but also you will need to configure everything in the public DNS, A, MX, PTR records.

    Best regards

    Hi Jorge,

    Thank you for your reply.

Just to check if have understood you correctly.
You are saying that using public DNS, such as Godaddy or Google, is risky and that if they don't work even internal email traffic will not work?
Are there any other possible problems?

I would also much appreciate anybodies advise on DNS configuration if I go WITHOUT Bind Server?
Or in other words please comment on my current DNS settings at Godaddy DNS zone editor (ones without values are currently empty):

As long as you have a valid mx record that points to your server, and a matching A record for the server then where or how your dns is hosted is pretty much irrelevant.
