    Default It lives!

Checked and changed the saslauthd.conf (.in) to include https: (again!) and the logger and snmp came up on the next restart. Not sure why? Probably down to url access? Still no tls auth yet ie attempts accepted but not authenticated.

Here's what I got in the messages log:

    Nov 30 10:30:09 zimbra saslauthd[1999]: auth_zimbra: fred@user.domain auth failed: curl_easy_perform: error(7): couldn't connect to host
    Nov 30 10:30:09 zimbra saslauthd[1999]: do_auth : auth failure: [user=fred@user.domain] [service=smtp] [realm=user.domain] [mech=zimbra] [reason=Unknown]
    Nov 30 10:30:09 zimbra saslauthd[1998]: auth_zimbra: fred@user.domain auth failed: curl_easy_perform: error(7): couldn't connect to host
    Nov 30 10:30:09 zimbra saslauthd[1998]: do_auth : auth failure: [user=fred@user.domain] [service=smtp] [realm=user.domain] [mech=zimbra] [reason=Unknown]

So I ran the zmtlsctl https (just to be sure) and restarted tomcat and it now works ie accepts tls and authenticates correctly!

Can't think of anything we are/aren't doing in the install that others do differently? Any ideas why?

Anyhow looks like the areas we needed to do were:

    1) Recreate Certs
    2) Install MTA cert
    3) edit saslauthd.conf (and saslauthd.conf.in)
    4) change mode to https (even when selected during install)

Many thanks for your help.... Now for RHE and Network.... where are those techies hiding.... ;-)

    Default possible cause?

    Hi When I run

    zmtlsctl https

it seems to rewrite saslauthd.conf.in to http://

Could this be a cause of the problem?

    If so:

    1) Recreate Certs
    2) Install MTA cert
    3) change mode to https (even when selected during install)
    4) edit saslauthd.conf (and saslauthd.conf.in)
    5) Restart tomcat

    should work.

    Default yup

Yeah, that won't help - Apparently I've got the logic in the script reversed.

If you want to fix it on your box, swap these two lines:

    sed -e 's/^zimbra_url: http:/zimbra_url: https:/' \
    and
    sed -e 's/^zimbra_url: https:/zimbra_url: http:/' \

    Thanks for the catch!

So I've been watching this thread with baited breath, as I've been suffering the same ill fate. Ya gots to read the whole thread, but I will summarize, for those who don't want to wade through all the meaty details to get the resolution.

If you are having trouble with SMTP authentication (which may manifest itself as simply being unable to send mail from your Thunderbird/Outlook/Eudora/etc client), you need to...

    (1) edit the file ~zimbra/bin/zmtlsctl
Swap lines 47 and 53, so that 47 has https and 53 has just http
Maybe marcmac can provide a file to download and replace your zmtlsctl?

    (2) as user zimbra, run "zmtlsctl https"

    (3) stop and restart the Zimbra suite (/etc/init.d/zimbra restart)

Your mileage may vary, but that's what solved the problem for me. Now I can relay through my mail server.

I get asked for a cert and accept it, but then i just get password dialog box over and over and over and over and over and over and over for about 2 months now. Please see my past posts on the thread for the gory details. Please Zimbra team help!!!!
