Well, based on the first couple of messages I would say that you don't have DNS configured properly. Check out the Wiki for instructions on setting up DNS, and possibly "Split DNS" if you are behind a firewall. Also, make sure you have your /etc/hosts file setup right.

The next warning messages about "port conflicts" suggest that you already have Apache or some other web server running on this server.

Your machine doesn't have the file libssl.so.5 where it can be loaded. Normally it'll be in /lib or /usr/lib.

You are better off trying to find a package that includes a real libss.so.5 as there will be some differences in the APIs between 5 and 6 which can cause errors that are very hard to diagnose. Some people have got around this by a symlink from an existing libssl.so but I don't recommend this due to the real differences in APIs between the versions of libssl.so.x

You also need to stop httpd. Tomcat won't start unless you do

    I don't know what OS you're on. On Cent/RHEL/FEDORA, it's:
    Code:
    service httpd stop
you can also just kill it:
    Code:
    ps auxx | grep httpd
    (kill any left over)
    Also, remove it from init
    Code:
    rm -rf /etc/init.d/httpd
    Good luck
