    Default Relay Access Denied

I have a fresh install of RHEL4. Zimbra installed flawlessly with no errors in the logs. I can successfully send email to accounts that I setup in Zimbra but not to external addresses. Here's what Outlook Express errors with:

Server Response: '554 : Relay access denied', Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 554, Error Number: 0x800CCC79

I've looked at all teh relevant posts in these formus but nothing seems to work. Here's my host file:

    127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost
    66.117.56.228 ai.4ph.com ai srv161.carpathiahost.net srv161

    I've also tried (everything on 1 live w/ 127.0.0.1):

    127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost ai.4ph.com ai srv161.carpathiahost.net srv161

in the Zimbra admin/MTA I have:
    tls: checked
webmail MTA: localhost (also tried ai.4ph.com)
    dns lookups: checked:
    everything else unchecked

I have tried what mathematically might be every possible checkbox combination without success.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi

    Is this:

    Code:
    66.117.56.228 ai.4ph.com ai srv161.carpathiahost.net srv161
your local machine or is it your ISPs mailserver?

Your hosts file should have an entry for the IP of your mail server and a fqdn, if you want to forward mail to a smart host (e.g. your ISPs mailserver) you do that in the Zimbra admin gui.
    Regards

    Bill

That is the local machine with its public IP address. Im not trying to forward to another mail server. I just want zimbra to be able to send to external addresses (like gmail for example).

    Default postfix logs

Can you post the postfix logs from one of these transactions? Generally, this would mean that you're trying to relay mail through a host that won't accept mail for that domain. If you've got no relay host set (right?) this shouldn't happen.

You could also try setting the relay host to your ISPs mailserver, which should accept all mail from your IP.

    Default relay access denied

Here's the screenshot from my MTA configuration.
I dont see anything in the zimbra.log. Is there another log file for postfix that I should be looking at?

    thanks

    Default postfix logs

Postfix logs are in /var/log/zimbra.log (grep for postfix). What does the relay denied look like in those logs?

The gif you posted won't display.

My logs dont show anything regarding postfix. I posted it here

this puts in what looks like a normal entry when i try to send the email:

    2005-11-30 10:32:29,090 INFO [Pop3Server-1] [] pop - connected
    2005-11-30 10:32:29,712 INFO [Pop3Server-1] [ip=24.73.138.23;name=admin@ai.4ph.com;] pop - quit from client

    Default logfile

What logfile is that? Is it /var/log/zimbra.log? All I see is tomcat stuff, which makes me think it may be /opt/zimbra/log/zimbra.log

You're right that was the /opt/zimbra/log/zimbra.log file. I've replaced it with the /var/log/zimbra.log file. It looks like the relevant entry is:

    Nov 30 10:32:28 srv161 postfix/smtpd[15138]: NOQUEUE: reject: RCPT from rrcs-24-73-138-23.se.biz.rr.com[24.73.138.23]: 554 : Relay access denied; from= to= proto=SMTP helo=
    Nov 30 10:32:28 srv161 postfix/smtpd[15138]: disconnect from

here's the link to the log file again: log

You'll also notice that I'm having issues with the ssl certificates (I already went through the procedure to recreate it)...i was going to leave that one for another post.

    thanks
