Default Moving from Scalix to Zimbra

    All,

We're currently using Scalix 11.3 and we're actively testing Zimbra NE. So far I've already matched everything that we have in Scalix and have some nice bonus features in just one week. However, looking at a migration I do have some sticking questions.

    * For mail moving, should I use imapsync or is there a better way to move mail messages?
    * How could I bring over distribution lists from scalix (and their memberships, of course) to Zimbra?

    Thanks,
    ~ Aaron

    IMAPsync will work just fine.

Are you able to export the current distribution lists to a flat file? You can then use the command line tool
    Code:
    su - zimbra
zmprov cdl new@distributionlist.com # Create the DL
zmprov adlm new@distributionlist.com member@domain.com # Add a member to the DL

Thank you for your responses. This will help in the migration efforts.

I currently use spamassassin and have built up a fairly robust mysql database to slow down our friendly spammers. Could I bring over the database and let zimbra's spam assassin run off that? What is Zimbra' default way of storing bad IPs / domain names for spam? I would guess its a flat file.

    Pindawen and others,
I am in the same situation. Have you been able to import Scalix passwords into Zimbra? I am struggling with the MD5/crypt stuff but cannot figure out what is the right way to do it.

Yes! One second after posting the previous message figured it out!

Brief howto moving passwords from Scalix to Zimbra:
(there may be a more efficient way!)

    - Create Zimbra user accounts the usual way
    - On Scalix server issue the following command: omsearch -d userlist -t h -e s=*
    - This will create a list of all users + passwords (and more).
    - Extract by hand or through script the username and password
e.g.: /INTERNET-ADDR="Secretariat" <secretariat@mycompany.com>/ -> make sure that there is a user secretariat@mycompany.com in Zimbra; password is in: /UL-PWD=$1$K31Qg9QDvNJAw$rvJvscyDlhd30/
    - On Zimbra server issue the following commands:
    # su zimbra
    # zmprov ma secretariat@mycompany.com userPassword '{crypt}$1$K31Qg9QDvNJAw$rvJvscyDlhd30'
    - (Make sure not to copy the trailing slash from Scalix!)
    # zmcontrol stop && zmcontrol start

Now your Scalix user can login Zimbra using their Scalix password.

I do not have wiki access (yet); may post it there at some point.

    Z-user,

How are you planning on bringing over their mail? I sucessfully used imapsync with the assumption that I know the user's passwords on both servers. Is there a way to run imapsync with the 'sxadmin' account? Or do you parse out their encrypted passwords with
    omsearch -d userlist -t h -e s=*
and then use imapsync with encrypted passwords for each account?

In addition, how do you plan on moving calendar & contact information from your webusers to Zimbra? Imapsync won't bring over calendar and contacts.

    Thanks,

    Aaron

in imapsync to get access to ernie's mailbox using the sxadmin account use --user1 mboxadmin:sxadmin:ernie --password1 sxadminspassword (better use passfile!)

Thanks for the tidbit-- with now Scalix promising active sync support-- we are on hold to see which system can support iphones and other devices better. With 5.07 NE, Zimbra does an okay job-- but its not super solid. I have had numerous issues and essentiall from Zimbra tech support we've seen '5.09 fixes what you're getting'.

It will be a showdown of scalix 11.4.1 vs zimbra 5.09 once they are both out and installed. heh.
